    The Position

    Staff Associate Engineers perform professional engineering assignments not requiring licensure by the State Board of Professional Engineers & Land Surveyors.

    Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.

    This position is located in the Materials Division in Carson City. The position is responsible for performing geotechnical analysis and providing design/construction recommendations for foundations supporting all types of transportation facilities, including bridges, buildings, and retaining walls; conducting field explorations and inspections; conducting seismic surveys; performing stability analyses for rock and soil cut slopes, rock falls, and landslides; providing design/construction recommendations for revetments, subsurface trench drains, and roadway subgrade support; performing stability and settlement analyses for embankments. This position prepares geotechnical reports and design memoranda; reviews construction project plans, specifications, and cost estimates; manages outside consultants' geotechnical work; attends meetings: conducts construction inspections; provides technical assistance during construction projects; and provides support in disrupting contractors' claims. ***THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE WITHOUT FURTHER NOTICE DEPENDING ON THE NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS RECEIVED.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or closely related engineering field and two years of professional engineering experience; OR Certification by the Nevada State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors as an Engineer Intern, and two years of professional engineering experience in civil engineering or closely related engineering field; OR two years of experience as a Staff I, Associate Engineer or Supervisor I, Associate Engineer in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Special Notes Employees in this class who are not registered professional engineers may not represent themselves as such to other persons or entities. Special Requirements A valid drivers license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. Additional Position Criteria This position requires experience in geotechnical engineering. SPECIAL NOTE: Candidates shall be able to demonstrate they are actively working on obtaining Professional Engineering license in the State of Nevada. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
