    Job Summary:

    The primary responsibility of the Cadet is to attend the prescribed training sessions to learn the principles, practices and theory of criminal and civil law enforcement, as well as codified and case law. The cadet also receives training in report writing, physical fitness techniques, firearms use and maintenance, arrest and control techniques, de-escalation techniques, community policing strategies, as well as other law enforcement related skills. Appointments in this classification are temporary in nature and typically do not exceed (7) months. Under close supervision, the Cadet may assist other police officers in the performance of their duties.

    Responsibilities:
    • Attend prescribed training sessions to learn principles, practices, and theory of criminal and civil law enforcement, including codified and case law.
    • Receive training in:
    • Report writing
    • Physical fitness techniques
    • Firearms use and maintenance
    • Arrest and control techniques
    • De-escalation techniques
    • Community policing strategies
    • Other law enforcement-related skills
    • Assist police officers in the performance of their duties under close supervision.
    • Perform other classification-related duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications: Required Education and Experience

    • High school diploma or equivalent and

    • Eligibility to attend a certified P.O.S.T. basic training academy.

    Required Qualifications

    • Ability to qualify for and satisfactory meet the ongoing standards of the basic P.O.S.T. academy training.

    • Mental capacity, physically agility and learning potential to perform all aspects of P.O.S.T. training and police work.

    License / Certifications

    • Valid California driver’s license is required

    • Eligible to be a peace officer in the State of California.

    • Eligible to obtain a valid P.O.S.T. Certificate of Eligibility or possess a P.O.S.T. Basic Certificate in good standing

    Physical Requirements

    • Reading and comprehending, writing, communicating verbally, reasoning and analyzing

    Compensation and Benefits:

    Anticipated Hiring Range: Minimum $3,934 Per Month

    Classification Salary Range: Min $3,934 - $6,418Max

    The salary offered will take into account internal equity and experience among other factors.

    The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 15 paid holidays a year.     Position Information:

    Work status: Full-time/ /Non-Exempt /Temporary (Does not exceed 7 months)

    This position classification has been defined as non-exempt and is subjected to overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

    Academic year schedule: Monday through Friday (8:00 am - 5:00 pm), some evenings/weekends.

    Summer schedule: Monday through Thursday (7:00 am - 5:30 pm), some evenings/weekends.

    Conditions of Employment

    Background Check

    Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

    Drivers License Check

    Possession of a valid Driver's License is required. Employees in this position will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Government Employer Pull Notice Program which confirms possession of a valid driver's license and reflects driving record.

    Physical Exam

    Employment is contingent upon candidate passing a pre-employment physical exam with the ability to lift in excess of 50 lbs.

    Mandated Reporter

    The person holding this position is considered a `mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
