    Under direct supervision, perform activities and services for conventions, events and trade shows in a public assembly/event/parking facility.

    Job Description:

    Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:

    Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
    • Reads and interprets stage and seating diagrams.
    • Assembles and disassembles portable stages, bleachers and seating arrangements.
    • Operates various equipment such as forklifts, buffers, scrubbers, vacuum cleaners, extractors to clean carpet, etc.
    • Picks up and dispose of waste and other materials.
    • Checks, cleans and services equipment.
    • Performs cashiering duties.
    • Performs light security duties.
    • Performs janitorial duties.
    • Answers visitor/client questions and provide assistance.

    Responsibilities - Supervisor and/or Leadership Exercised:

    May provide leadership, work assignments, evaluation, training, and guidance to others.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
    • Knowledge of general public event operational processes.
    • Knowledge of Federal, State, and Local laws.
    • Knowledge of City practice, policy and procedures.
    • Knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
    • Skill in oral and written communication.
    • Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
    • Skill in planning and organizing.
    • Ability to operate various equipment used in public events.
    • Ability to perform security services.
    • Ability to read and follow floor plan sketches and diagrams.
    • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other City employees and the public.
    • Ability to lead others.


    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus two (2) years of experience in a convention center, public assembly/event facility or other related facility/industry performing related or similar activities.
    • One (1) additional year of relevant work experience may substitute for the required education with a maximum substitution of (4) four years.


    Licenses and Certifications Required:
    • Appropriate level of driver's license and certifications as specified for the individual's job.


    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Experience in coordinating cultural arts education events that demonstrate knowledge of and relevancy to Latin American, Mexican American, and diverse communities.
    • Experience with event logistics such as stage, audio, and lighting.
    • Experience working at a public facility, educational non-profit or institution, and/or cultural center.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel and Outlook
    • Ability to fluently communicate (reading, writing, speaking) in English and Spanish
    • Ability to travel to more than one work location.

    The Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center (ESB-MACC) is dedicated to the preservation, creation, presentation, and promotion of the cultural arts of Mexican Americans and Latino/a/e cultures. The Center is a resource for the community and visitors to learn and participate in classes and programs that will foster a meaningful understanding and appreciation of not only Mexican American, but also Native American, Chicano, and other Latino/a/e cultures. Programs and events include areas of visual art, theatre, dance, literature, music, language arts, and multi-media.

    The Position:

    The purpose of the position is to provide event planning and production support for the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center’s (ESB-MACC) Special Events, Classes/Workshops, and the Latino/a/e Artist Access Program, specializing in Mexican American, Latino/a/e, and Native American cultural arts for diverse audiences, including youth, adults, and all ages family friendly events.

    Schedule: Monday through Friday, 9:00 am - 6:00 pm. May be required to work during special events, evenings, weekends & holidays.

    Location: ESB MACC 600 Red River St.

    Work schedule and location are subject to change based on department needs and programs.

    Salary: $23.13 - $26.26

    Travel:

    If you are selected for this position and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin Driver Safety Program, you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations

    City Government

    The City of Austin is a progressive, full-service municipal organization operating under the Council-Manager form of government. Austin has a 10-1 council system with an at-large Mayor and Council Members that represent ten districts. The Mayor and Council Members may serve in their respective seats for four years with a maximum of two consecutive terms. 

    The City Council appoints the City Manager who is the chief administrative and executive officer of the City. The City Manager is responsible for guiding and directing day-to-day operations, as well as providing strategic research, recommendations, and management leadership to the City Council on the city budget, programs, policies, and services.
