JOB SUMMARYLeads and participates in the maintenance, repairs, and construction of City rights-of-way infrastructure for streets; plans and coordinates assigned maintenance projects and personnel; prepares maintenance/project records and documentation; operates and maintains departmental equipment; conducts surveys and field design work; responds to public inquiries and complaints; and performs other related duties.

- Leads and oversees the planning, coordination, and implementation of street maintenance projects.
- Assists with ordering project materials and supplies to support timely execution.
- Maintains documentation of work orders, labor hours, materials, and equipment used.
- Performs field surveying and contributes to project design as needed.
- Supervises, trains, and evaluates assigned personnel to ensure effective team performance.
- Assigns work duties and monitors the quality and progress of work performed by the maintenance crew.
- Ensures crew compliance with safety regulations and operational standards.
- Participates in and oversees street maintenance work, including operation of heavy equipment, tools, and machinery.
- Inspects departmental equipment and coordinates repairs to ensure safe and proper functioning.
- Evaluates work areas for safety and ensures protective measures are in place for crews and the public.
- Enforces use of personal protective equipment and adherence to safety protocols.
- Ensures erosion and traffic control measures follow best practices and TMUTCD standards.
- Responds to public inquiries, concerns, and complaints related to street maintenance.
- Provides on-call support for maintenance issues and emergencies as needed.
- Assists other City departments with maintenance-related tasks when required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS & PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Five (5) years of street, drainage, or traffic maintenance experience, including two (2) years of experience working in a lead capacity is required.
- A Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License is required within one (1) year of employment. A Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP) is required within 90 days of employment.
- Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
COMPETENCIES AND ENVIRONMENT KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES - Knowledge of municipal codes, safety regulations, blueprints, project documentation, and material safety data sheets.
- Knowledge of supervisory principles, including training, performance evaluation, and crew management.
- Skill in effective verbal and written communication to interact professionally with City staff, external agencies, vendors, and the public.
- Skill in interpreting technical documents and applying safety and operational standards to field work.
- Ability to determine and implement best practices for safety, project execution, and crew oversight.
- Ability to maintain positive working relationships and foster a collaborative team environment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS This position requires the ability to lift up to 100 pounds occasionally. Subject to vision and hearing constantly; standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, reaching, handling and foot controls frequently; sitting, fine dexterity, kneeling, crouching, bending, twisting, climbing and balancing occasionally; crawling rarely.
WORK ENVIRONMENT Working conditions involve exposure to variable and/or extreme weather conditions, heavy equipment, vehicle traffic, hot asphalt, hazardous chemicals/materials, and infectious diseases is involved. Utilizes personal protective equipment as required.
