    OVERVIEW

    Fellowship Experience Overview
    As a Fellow in the Support Services/Financial Division, you will gain comprehensive, hands-on experience across all key functional areas that support the financial operations of Public Works. This role is designed to provide a well-rounded understanding of how financial services support infrastructure, operations, and public service delivery.

    Throughout the fellowship, you will:
    • Rotate through core functional areas, including Payroll, Accounts Payable/Receivable, Utility Billing, Equipment Services, and Budget/Financial Reporting.
    • Receive assignments and projects tailored to each area, allowing you to apply your skills while learning division-specific processes and systems.
    • Collaborate with experienced staff to understand workflows, compliance requirements, and financial systems such as Workday, NorthStar, Cartegraph, and Faster.
    • Participate in real-world financial operations, including invoice processing, payroll administration, utility billing, asset management, and budget development.
    • Contribute to meaningful projects, such as construction project tracking, grant reporting, and financial audits, gaining insight into public sector financial management.
    • Develop professional skills in financial analysis, reporting, customer service, and cross-departmental collaboration.

    What you will bring to be successful in this role:

    • A minimum of three (3) years of fiscal or accounting experience, strong attention to detail, and a willingness to learn and collaborate across teams.

    This fellowship offers a unique opportunity to explore the intersection of finance and public service, preparing you for future roles in government finance, public administration, or operational support.

    OTHER POSITION RELATED INFORMATION

    This position is offered as a12-week fellowship/internship through the Department of Defense SkillBridge Program, designed specifically fortransitioning service members, military spouses, and caregivers. The SkillBridge initiative provides eligible participants with the opportunity to gain valuable civilian work experience through industry training, apprenticeships, or internships during their last 180 days of service. This fellowship allows participants to explore career opportunities, build professional networks, and develop skills that support a successful transition to the civilian workforce.

    Please note:This is an unpaid fellowship position.No salary, benefits, or compensationare associated with this opportunity, as participants continue to receive their military pay and benefits during the SkillBridge program.

    Key Dates:

    Jan 12-15: HOH orientation for Fellows. No Host Company participation.

    Jan 16: Optional Host Company Orientation Day (Schedule with your fellow(s)).

    Jan 20: First week at Host Company (Tuesday start due to MLK Jr. Day).

    April 1: Final day of fellowship

    April 2: Graduation - we will send an invitation closer to the event.

    No benefits are offered with this position exceptthose required by the state or federal law.
