    Essential Job Functions

    • Supervises technical support staff (e.g., Information Technology Technical Support Analysts).
    • Provides technical and system access support, and troubleshooting.
    • Safeguards IT-related equipment and accessories.
    • Collaborates with a variety of individuals (e.g., customers, departmental managers, section staff, vendors, developers, system administrators, other government agencies, etc.).
    • Prepares a variety of documents and presentations (e.g., project schedules, progress reports, system requirement documents, migration plans, technical instructions, reports, emails, surveys, etc.).
    • Provides orientation and/or technical training to various stakeholders (e.g., customers, technical staff, vendors, and management)
    • Coordinates helpdesk-related projects (e.g., migrations, deployments).


    Requirements

    REQUIREMENTS TO QUALIFY:
    Option I: Three (3) years of experience installing, configuring, testing, troubleshooting and repairing client computing devices or software, in a centralized Information Technology organization*; one (1) year of which must have been in a highly responsible capacity at the level of Los Angeles County's class of Senior IT Technical Support Analyst**

    Option II: Four (4) years of experience installing, configuring, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing client computing devices or software in a help desk/desktop support role with a minimum of two (2) years as a senior or lead*** working in an enterprise corporate environment****.

    LICENSE:
    A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

    PHYSICAL CLASS:
    Physical Class 2 - Light: This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION:
    *Centralized IT organization is defined in the County of Los Angeles as that which is responsible, under the direction or guidance of the Chief Information Technology official (or, at the Sheriff's Department, the coordinated executive command structure) for the department or major organization unit, for providing comprehensive IT services including analysis, design, acquisition, and/or development, implementation, maintenance, or support of information systems; and in which the work performed is in direct relationships to the IT requirements and initiatives of the department or major organization unit.

    ** Experience at the level of Senior IT Technical Support Analyst is defined as: Under direction provides comprehensive/complex technical support services in information technology including installation, configuration, testing, troubleshooting and repair of hardware, software, networking and applications; may lead other IT support staff.

    *** Experience as a Senior or Lead refers to roles in which an individual does not perform formal supervisory responsibilities such as performance evaluations and hiring, but may provide guidance to other staff on work functions and provide feedback/initial review of work products

    ****An enterprise corporate environment is defined as an organization that has at least 300 employees and delivers multiple operational programs or service lines spanning more than one functional or business area.

    EXAMINATION CONTENT :

    This examination will consist of TWO (2) parts:

    Part I: Multiple choice and/or simulation assessment(s), weighted at 70%, assessing:

    MULTIPLE CHOICE AND/OR SIMULATION ASSESSMENT(S) ARE NOT REVIEWABLE BY CANDIDATES PER CIVIL SERVICE RULE 7.19.

    Part II: An evaluation of Training and Experience, weighted at 30%, assessing:

    • Professional/Technical Knowledge of desktop/workstation system principles, concepts, and configurations
    • Professional/Technical Knowledge of technical information technology troubleshooting methods
    • Customer Service


    Applicants must meet the Minimum Requirements and achieve 70% or higher on the combined score of Parts I and II in order to be placed on the eligible list.

    TRANSFER OF TEST COMPONENTS :
    If you have taken identical components recently for other exams, your responses may be automatically transferred to this examination. This exam contains test components that might be used on future exams, and your responses could be transferred to that exam.

    TEST PREPARATION :
    We provide study guides and other test preparation resources to help candidates prepare for employment tests. While the guides may help in preparing for the test, we recommend reviewing all related materials that seem necessary.
