The Position
Mental Health Counselors provide counseling, case management, direct clinical services, community and home based services, and behavioral and human services to mentally ill, developmentally disabled and/or emotionally disturbed clients in an outpatient, residential, community or similar setting.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.
The Nevada Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) is recruiting for a Mental Health Counselor 1 underfilling Mental Health Counselor 2 in the Early Childhood Mental Health Services (ECMHS) and Children's Clinical Services (CCS) Programs at Northern Nevada Child and Adolescent Services (NNCAS). This position provides office and home-based therapeutic services and case management to infants, children and their families in our ECMHS (birth to seven) and in our CCS (eight to eighteen) programs. Incumbents provide dyadic "parent/child" psychotherapy utilizing evidence-based treatment practices, review records, complete assessments, prepare treatment plans, discuss child/family treatment during clinical supervision/consultation, administer individual and standardized assessments, integrate and analyze information from all available sources, document quality of care, ensure information is available to other members of the treatment team by completing required forms and report and maintain documentation to ensure compliance with established laws, regulations, policies and standards of care. Clinical experience with children under eight years old is preferred. Licensure or Post-Graduate Intern approval in clinical fields of MFT, CPC, or LCSW, or Psychologist is required. This position is part-time with a regular work schedule between the hours of 8:00am -5:00pm with overtime after 40 hours per week. In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Master's degree from an accredited college or university in counseling, marriage and family therapy, psychology, social work or closely related academic field; OR an equivalent combination of education and clinical experience at or above a master's degree and experience as described above. Special Notes Some positions require specialized training and experience working with specific client populations Special Requirements A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. This position requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment. Additional Position Criteria The incumbent, including those hired into a position as an underfill, must possess a valid license (e.g., LMFT, LPC, LCSW) or can be obtained within 3 months of application date. Show moreThe presence of Nevada's earliest inhabitants, beginning about 12,400 years ago, is marked by many petroglyphs and archaeological sites. Baskets, decoys, and ingenious traps are evidence of the resourcefulness of these early people in a harsh and arid environment.
European explorers traveled through Nevada in the early 19th century, but it was not until 1851 that the first settlements were established. An Act of Congress created the Territory of Nevada on March 2, 1861. James W. Nye of New York was appointed Nevada's first Territorial Governor by President Abraham Lincoln later that year. On October 31, 1864, President Lincoln proclaimed Nevada's admission to the Union as the 36th state. The State's first elected Governor, Henry Blasdel, took office on December 5, 1864.
Today, Nevada is the nation's seventh largest state in land area. Several hundred mountain ranges cross its landscape, many with elevations over 10,000 feet. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
The Nevada Legislature has honored the State's natural resources and cultural heritage with a variety of State designations described below.
