    Job Description

    Job Location: This position will be located at 1010 West Columbia Street Farmington, MO

    Why you’ll love this position:

    Southeast Missouri Mental Health Center (SMMHC) is seeking a Chaplain/Spiritual Services Coordinator to facilitate religious and spiritual programming for individuals of diverse faith traditions. This role will be responsible for conducting group and individual spiritual sessions, ensuring that all clients have the opportunity to practice their faith in accordance with institutional guidelines. While Christianity is represented, this position requires a strong ability to support services for Wiccan, Native American, Muslim, and Jewish practitioners, among others.

    The ideal candidate will be an inclusive and knowledgeable spiritual leader who can engage with a variety of faith traditions, maintain open communication with external spiritual leaders, and uphold the policies outlined in our Spiritual and Religious Services Manual.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Conduct/moderate/facilitate group worship services and individual spiritual sessions for clients of various faiths, ensuring equitable support for all recognized religious traditions.

    • Maintain active relationships with external faith leaders and coordinate visits from spiritual advisors to meet clients’ religious needs.

    • Ensure compliance with institutional guidelines related to spiritual accommodations, sacred objects, religious gatherings, and security considerations.

    • Support clients in spiritual growth, ethical reflection, and religious observance, respecting their personal beliefs and faith practices.

    • Oversee and manage religious/spiritual resources, including sacred texts, ceremonial items, and communal worship spaces.

    • Lead the Spiritual Accommodations Committee to advocate for client needs and ensure appropriate accommodations are met.

    • Collaborate with treatment teams to provide spiritual assessments when requested and integrate spiritual care into the overall well-being of clients.

    • Work within a secure, therapeutic environment, ensuring that all religious services align with hospital policies on safety and security.

    • Recruit and coordinate volunteers and religious leaders to assist in spiritual programming.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    In good standing with the Chaplain’s faith community and endorsed or eligible for endorsement by faith community.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Theology, Religious Studies, Pastoral Care preferred

    • Ordination, certification, or recognized endorsement by a faith community preferred

    • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in providing spiritual care across multiple religious traditions, including but not limited to Wiccan, Native American, Muslim, Jewish, and Christian faiths.

    • Ability to work with individuals from diverse cultural and spiritual backgrounds in a non-judgmental and inclusive manner.

    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to engage with clients, staff, and external faith leaders.

    • Experience in mental health or institutional settings (preferred).

    • Understanding of spiritual accommodations, sacred items, and religious group facilitation within a structured environment.
