    The City of Rockport is looking for a skilled and motivated Mechanic to help keep our fleet operating safely and efficiently.

    What You’ll Do:

    As a Mechanic, you’ll perform a wide range of maintenance and repair tasks on city vehicles and equipment—from preventative services to in-depth diagnostics and repairs. You’ll help keep our fleet in peak condition and contribute to the safety and reliability of Rockport’s public services.
    • Diagnose and repair diesel, gas, and mechanical equipment.
    • Perform routine services such as oil changes, tire inspections, and battery checks.
    • Use testing and diagnostic tools to identify issues and ensure proper performance.
    • Keep accurate maintenance records and documentation.
    • Weld and fabricate components when needed.
    • Maintain a clean and organized work area and shop.
    • Manage inventory of parts and tools and assist with reorders.
    • Operate a variety of shop equipment, machinery, and specialized tools.

    What You’ll Bring to the Team:
    • Knowledge of vehicle and equipment maintenance, diagnostics, and repair.
    • Experience with shop tools, equipment, and diagnostic software.
    • Ability to follow safety procedures and city maintenance standards.
    • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
    • A positive attitude and ability to work independently or as part of a team.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • High school diploma or equivalent, with additional vocational or technical training preferred.
    • 1–2 years of relevant experience or completion of an apprenticeship/internship.
    • Valid Texas driver’s license.
    • CDL Class A (preferred) or the ability to obtain one.

    Work Environment & Physical Demands:
    • Work is performed indoors in a garage and occasionally outdoors in all weather conditions.
    • Must be able to lift heavy objects, bend, crouch, climb ladders, and use tools.
    • Regular exposure to noise, dust, grease, and moving equipment.
    • Protective equipment such as gloves, goggles, and masks must be used.
