    Please note : The salary range listed in this job description is a base salary. Applicants eligible for years-of-service adjustments or shift differentials may exceed salary range listed above.

    This position will be located at Prairie State Park, 128 NW 150th Lane, Mindenmines, MO 64769. Shift is primarily Monday through Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm with a half hour lunch break. Shifts may vary with the time of year and to meet the needs of the facility; that could include working nights, weekends, holidays, evenings, and split shifts. Must be available to participate in meetings, workshops and seminars requiring overnight stays.

    • Responsible for performing a variety of semi-skilled work in the alteration, maintenance, natural resource stewardship, and repair of state buildings and facilities within 100 miles of Prairie State Park.
    • Work in a variety of trade areas such as electrical, plumbing, carpentry, concrete, and masonry, painting, plastering, and mechanical repair in settings such as facilities grounds, and cemeteries.
    • Routine cleaning of park buildings, restrooms, campsites, and park grounds.
    • Maintain a valid vehicle operator’s license to operate and maintain licensed vehicles, as well as tractors, mowers, skid steer, and other grounds related equipment.
    • Operate and maintain lawn mowers, tractors, skid loader, trucks, chainsaws, leaf blowers, spraying equipment; ATVs; brush hogs; and similar mechanical equipment.
    • Assist with prescribed burns, wildfire suppression, herbicide application, and other natural or cultural activities as directed with the completion of Level 1 Prescribed Fire training.
    • May also oversee a crew engaged in maintenance tasks.
    • Stewardship duties including maintaining bison fencing; assisting with the care and health of bison herd including feeding, round-ups, auctions, and vaccinations; spraying herbicide; tree removal; brush clearing; and seed collection.


    This position may be required to obtain and maintain a commercial operator’s license, water/wastewater certifications and/or other required licenses/certification. If required and if you do not currently possess the license/certification, you will be given six months to obtain necessary license/certification.

    • Problem Solving : Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
    • Listening : Receives, attends to, interprets, and responds to verbal messages and other cues such as body language in ways that are appropriate to listeners and situations.
    • Mechanical : Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, installation, uses, repair, and maintenance


    Equivalent to those typically gained by:

    • 1 - 3 years of experience in any of the following trade areas: electrical, plumbing, concrete and masonry, carpentry, painting, plastering, mechanical repair and farm work including the operation of farm machinery and/or construction of structures/enclosures.
