Headquartered in beautiful Santa Cruz, the Santa Cruz Metropolitan Transit District (SC METRO), is a regional agency of approximately 350 employees providing public transit service to the unincorporated areas of Santa Cruz County and to the cities of Capitola, Santa Cruz, Scotts Valley and Watsonville, as well as the UC Santa Cruz and Cabrillo College campuses. Instituted in 1976, SC METRO also operates the Highway 17 Express/Amtrak Connector Service in cooperation with the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority, Caltrans, Amtrak and the Capitol Corridor Joint Powers Authority. SC METRO’s large fleet of rolling stock includes 111 buses and 40 paratransit vehicles serving in excess of six million passengers annually with more than 3.5 million miles driven and nearly 1100 stops.
