Carries out supervisory responsibility in accordance with City policies, procedures, and applicable law; works with the Administrative Services Director to develop department goals, objectives, and systems and in the overall management of staff, including selection, training, development, motivation, supervision, discipline and evaluation. Serves as the City liaison to external agencies for funded projects; performs City grant preparation, tracking, reporting, and administration. Serves as back-up to Administrative Services Director for the review and approval of invoices and checks for payment; acts in the absence of the Administrative Services Director. Utilities Maintenance Worker II: $29.45-$35.79/hour Lead Underground Utilities Maintenance Worker: $32.39-$39.37/hour There are currently 2 openings, one for a Utilities Maintenance Worker II and one for a Lead Underground Utilities Maintenance Worker. The Position The Maintenance Worker II - Underground Utilities is the journey level class in the Public Works Maintenance series in which incumbents are expected to independently perform the full scope of assigned duties. Incumbents perform a full range of maintenance and construction tasks. This classification is distinguished from the next higher classification of Lead Maintenance Worker, which is responsible for performing the more complex maintenance assignments and has lead responsibility duties. Performs sewer and storm drains maintenance including installing, repairing, and maintaining sewer lines; locates and repairs breaks in sewer mainlines; repairs or replaces valves as needed; hydro flushes and rods; and cleans storm drains and ditches. Performs installation, maintenance, and repair of the City’s water distribution system; inspects for and repairs leaks in meters and lines; operates pipe and leak detection equipment; performs pump and motor repairs, overhauls, and installations; and notifies customers of problems or disruptions of water service. Checks pump stations and records flows; flushes and flow tests hydrants; creates and maintains spreadsheets containing daily operation and maintenance data related to water related equipment, meters, water mains, services, and backflows. Reads meters on an assigned route and records readings; re-reads meters as necessary and investigates unusual readings and customer complaints; and identifies and replaces faulty water meters when required.
