Job Summary The Children's School is a laboratory demonstration school for the Department of Early Childhood Studies at Sonoma State University. The Children’s School is accredited by NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children) and is a Sonoma County Quality Counts Tier 5 rated program. Reporting to and under the general supervision of the Director of the Children's School, the Early Education Teacher (Teacher) is responsible for constructing a sound early childhood educational environment in accordance with the policies and philosophy of the Children's School. The Teacher’s responsibilities include working with the Master Teacher and/or Director to plan and implement a dynamic, developmental, inclusive program for children, working with families, therapists, and supervising University undergraduate and graduate students. Key Qualifications This position requires an associate's degree in child development; bachelor's degree in Child Development or related field with emphasis in Early Childhood Education highly preferred. Consistent with the state Child Development Permit Matrix, incumbents who do not have a degree must have completed at least 24 units in child development or early childhood education plus additional general education requirements. Must have verification of submission of Teacher Child Development Permit (or higher), issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. Incumbents who possess an associate’s degree or higher must have completed the required units of supervised field experience. Incumbents without a degree must meet the specified days of experience within the last four years, roughly equivalent to six to twelve months of experience. Three years' experience teaching in an early childhood education classroom, with one year with infants and toddlers, within the last seven years preferred. The Department Courses taught within the Department of University Studies are designed to provide students with academic and transitional support. Duties of the Position Courses available in University Studies can be accessed through the SSU Catalog. Instructors teaching these courses are responsible for all aspects of course development following the provided master course syllabus and/or course guideline document. Key Qualifications This position requires two years of journey-level experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of boiler, heating, ventilating, refrigeration, and air conditioning equipment systems or the equivalent combination of formal course work in mechanical / electrical controls technology with hands-on experience. On-site engineer for performances and events with the ability to work in a performing arts setting with a diverse variety of performers, campus departments, and their requests is preferred. Beginning proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) required. Knowledge of Google Suite, computerized work control system, building control systems and PeopleSoft preferred. The Department Majors in the Department of Chemistry may pursue a B.S in chemistry or biochemistry (certified by the American Chemical Society) or a B.A. in chemistry. A minor in chemistry is also offered. There are approximately 100 total majors in Chemistry and Biochemistry who come from diverse backgrounds, and many of whom are first-generation students. The Department's objectives include providing an inclusive environment where students will gain a broad, fundamental background in chemistry and its applications to prepare them to work in industry or in research laboratories, pursue graduate study, or professional school. Many graduates go on to graduate schools, health professional schools or find employment in local industries. The Department also provides important courses in the University’s general education program and supports other majors. The Chemistry Department emphasizes quality undergraduate instruction and offers considerable hands-on experience with close student-faculty contact in classes and in research. The department’s advanced instrumentation includes a 400 MHz NMR procured as part of an NSF-MRI award, LC-MS, GC-MS, FT-IR, UV-Vis spectrophotometers, a fluorescence spectrometer, AAS, and an additional 60 MHz FT-NMR capable of rapid C-13 and 2-D analysis. Also available in the Keck Microanalysis Laboratory are a scanning electron microscope with energy-dispersive x-ray analysis, two atomic force microscopes, an Auger spectrometer and an epifluorescent and laser scanning confocal microscope. Each closed lab meets once a week, for three hours, in a classroom that is equipped with iMac workstations. Successful candidates for this position lead lab sessions and provide assistance to students as they work on their assignments. The instructor of the lecture component leads the course and is responsible for the course in its entirety, including the design of the hands-on assignments that the students are expected to complete during the lab meetings. Lab instructors are expected to be informed about the entire course through the material that the lead lecture instructor makes available to them and to coordinate closely with the lead instructor throughout the semester. Even though they might give a short overview of the lab at the start of the session, the lab instructors usually do not give lectures introducing new material. They answer students’ questions related to the topics covered in the lecture, and help them design, develop, and debug their lab assignments. In addition, the lab instructors are expected to grade lab assignments. Lecturers: Those applying for this position are expected to teach an entire course in their area of expertise. Assignments can vary in duration and are not guaranteed. Duties for Nursing pool instructors include roles and responsibilities that support the tenure/tenure track faculty leads of programs in: Providing effective classroom, clinical or laboratory instruction using methods and materials appropriate to the subject matter and learners. Preparing and grading class assignments and examinations. Assisting and evaluating students, supporting students with accommodations, evaluating learning outcomes and maintaining regular office hours. Participating in program activities including curriculum and program planning, development, evaluation, and decision making as well as the development of new teaching-learning methods and materials as outlined by the Board of Registered Nursing and the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. Contributing to development of program policies and procedures. Representing program, maintaining, and developing clinical partnerships for the hospital/ community placements as an ambassador for positive representation of Sonoma State University Department of Nursing. Meeting with managers and staff in clinical/community agencies for orientation and coordination of instruction. Ongoing evaluation of student clinical competencies following course, program objectives and adhering to policies and procedures. Ensuring that all records are collected and maintained as required by CA BRN, CCNE, and University policies. Participating in course, team, program and departmental meetings and professional development activities in a constructive and collaborative manner. Maintaining accurate and timely student records as required. Maintaining currency and depth of knowledge in assigned content and or practice area of responsibility. Maintaining appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to collaborate and receptive to feedback. Professional Qualifications To be recommended for appointment, the candidate must have: UNDERGRADUATE TEACHING REQUIREMENTS Prelicensure: A Master's degree in Nursing and one (1) year of full-time continuous experience in the last five (5) years as a Registered Nurse providing direct patient care in the area assigned to teach or one (1) academic year of RN-level clinical teaching experience in the designated nursing area; and Current and unencumbered RN license issued by the CA BRN Appointment is subject to CA BRN approval Current and valid CPR/BLS certification and immunizations as required by the clinical agency Demonstrates sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of college students and the campus community. Post-licensure: A Master's degree in Nursing and (1) one year of related professional experience Current and unencumbered RN license issued by the CA BRN Current and valid CPR/BLS certification Demonstrates sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of college students and the campus community. GRADUATE LEVEL TEACHING REQUIREMENTS FNP Program: A Master's or Doctorate degree in Nursing or related field and national certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner; and At least (1) one year of current and related nurse practitioner experience Current and unencumbered RN and NP license issued by the CA BRN Current and valid CPR/BLS certification Demonstrates sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of college students and the campus community. Rank and Salary Full-time is a 15-unit workload per semester. Actual salary is dependent upon the number of units assigned, educational preparation, and availability of funds subject to any CSU system faculty contract salary increases. Salary commensurate with degree level and experience. Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $4,530 - $6,056 per full-time month. The full-time (15 units per semester) monthly base salary range indicated above is prorated to the number of units worked and are paid in six monthly payments for each full semester.
