THE COMMUNITY:
Fairfield is a city of over 95,000 located on Interstate 80 midway between San Francisco and Sacramento. The City gives high priority to parks, recreational and cultural activities, and is within easy driving distance to attractions in the San Francisco Bay Area, Sacramento and Lake Tahoe. Fairfield is also in close proximity to the wine countries of Napa and Sonoma counties.

The City of Fairfield has an excellent unified school district with up-to-date facilities for all grades. Solano Community College provides excellent academic programs and job training facilities, and the University of California campuses at Davis and Berkeley are only 30 minutes away.

THE CITY GOVERNMENT:
Fairfield is a general law city operating under the council-manager form of government. The City Council consists of four council members and a mayor elected at large. The City Clerk also is an elected official. The City Council appoints the City Manager. In addition to the City Manager and City Clerk offices, City departments include Community Services (recreation, housing, cultural and social services), Finance, Fire, Human Resources, Planning and Development, Police and Public Works. The City has 500 full-time and 210 part-time employees and a current annual budget of $186 million. The 33-acre Fairfield Civic Center, located near the central business district, houses most City functions, the County branch library and the Chamber of Commerce in attractive buildings adjacent to a three-acre lake.
