Under general supervision, the employee is expected to handle with competence any engineering assignments. The employee uses initiative and creativity to solve electrical and mechanical problems. Performs other related work as required.

- Prepares designs, plans, specifications, estimates and reports for electrical and mechanical engineering projects.
- Makes electrical and mechanical engineering investigations.
- Inspects construction of electrical and mechanical systems.
- Reviews test reports of completed installations.
- Directs preparation and maintenance of permanent engineering and cost data records.
- Prepares correspondence and other material.
- Prepares project schedules.
- Performs related work as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
This position requires three years of professional experience in the field of electrical and/or mechanical engineering and possession of a valid California certificate of registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in electrical and/or mechanical engineering. A Master's degree in electrical and/or mechanical engineering from an ABET (American Board of Engineering and Technology) accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of experience.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

THE SELECTION PROCESSStage I: Application, Résumé, and Supplemental Questionnaire Evaluation (Pass/Fail)
- Supervise and direct support staff.
- Use computer aided drafting programs.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the performance of duties and to work as a team.
- Work under deadlines and coordinate several concurrent assignments.
- Work with minimum supervision.
- The first stage in the selection process will consist of an application, résumé, and supplemental questionnaire appraisal review (pass/fail). Meeting the minimum qualifications does not guarantee advancement to the next stage. Only the most suitably qualified candidates will be invited to Stage II.Stage II: Assessment Examination (Weighted 100%)
- The second stage of the selection process may consist of a combination of job-related situational project exercises and an oral panel interview designed to assess technical knowledge and any additional other KSAs. Job-related situational project exercises may consist of written exercises, performance exercises or other situational exercises that would assess the KSAs. The Assessment Examination is designed to test your overall aptitude for the position.

Additional Requirements: Incumbents in this job are expected to operate automotive vehicles in the performance of assigned duties. Due to assignments and hours worked, public transportation may not be an efficient method for traveling to required locations. Incumbents in this classification may be assigned either to the Airport or Harbor work location.
