The Position The City of Riverside is seeking qualified applicants for the position of AIR CONDITIONING TECHNICIAN to fill one (1) vacancy in the Parks Division of the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department. The eligibility list established may be used to fill the current and/or upcoming vacancies within this classification for up to six (6) months. The Air Conditioning Technician performs skilled tasks in the installation, alteration, maintenance and repair of mechanical and electrical systems equipment and fixtures related to the City's various air conditioning and heating systems. Work Performed Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: Develop and maintain preventive maintenance schedule on all refrigeration, air conditioning and heating equipment. Perform extensive maintenance work cleaning coils and other parts, oiling fans, changing filters and adjusting air flow and water treatment. Analyze and troubleshoot a wide range of building systems such as alarm, plumbing, lighting control, network connectivity, data, phone, furniture systems, and air conditioning problems and adjust thermostats and other controls to obtain desired results; instruct office personnel in proper setting of thermostats. Maintain records of maintenance work and inspections. Perform general clean up and custodial duties as necessary for building maintenance and safety. Qualifications Education and Experience: Education: High School graduation or satisfactory equivalent (GED). Experience: Three (3) years' experience at the journey level in the installation, maintenance, and repair of air conditioning and heating equipment. Highly Desired Qualifications: Experience developing HVAC Maintenance Management Plans. Experience maintaining appliances like ice makers, drinking fountains, refrigerators, and freezers. Install, troubleshoot, calibrate, service, repair and maintain refrigeration and HVAC systems, equipment, instruments, and controls using electrical, electronic, pneumatic or digitally controlled systems. Locate and diagnose malfunctions using a wide variety of test equipment and instruments. Maintain and service tools and equipment used in the performance of duties. Oil, clean, adjust, overhaul, and repair motors, condensers, compressors, oil and vacuum pumps, and similar equipment. Participate in the maintenance and operations of applicable heating and air conditioning systems and equipment. Perform major overhauls involving disassembly and inspection of all parts, replacement of defective and worn parts, reassembly of equipment instruments and/or controls, and the testing of equipment to ensure proper functioning. Respond to service requests timely. Responsibility for the full range of service, maintenance and repair on more complex refrigeration and associated HVAC systems and equipment. Use building automation system to diagnose and troubleshoot problems in HVAC and refrigeration system. Recordkeeping Maintain records and logs and computerized maintenance management systems, including accounting for labor, materials and purchasing. Prepare standard and complex reports. The selected candidates are expected to independently perform the full range of electronic and computerized vehicle systems maintenance, repair, and service activities on the City’s entire complement of motorized equipment. Examples of job duties include , but are not limited to: Troubleshoots, installs and removes, and repairs electronic fareboxes using appropriate tools . Conducts prevent at ive maintenance inspections and repairs on electronic fareboxes. Troubleshoots and repairs all vehicle and equipment electrical problems, including complete diagnosis of electronic and computer controlled systems. Programs and operates automatic diagnostic and testing equipment, including the use of computer based software, to facilitate troubleshooting electronic equipment. Implements and schedules routine preventative maintenance for on-board advanced vehicle control systems. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Any combination equivalent to training and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be: High school graduation or equivalent and three (3) years of recent, paid journey level performing installation, repair, maintenance, and testing of electronic communications equipment, fare boxes, two-way radios or analog and digital equipment . An Associate of Science degree or equivalent college level course work in Electronics Technology, Electronics Communication, Radio Communications or related field is desirable. WORK SCHEDULE: Will be requi red to work nights, weekends, holidays and odd shifts . LICENSE AND CERTIFICATES Possession of a valid California Class B driver’s license with a passenger transportation endorsement is required. A class B permit will be accepted for the first 90 days of appointment as an Electronic Fleet Services Technician. Possession of a Motor Vehicle Air Conditioning (MVAC) Certification is required within six months of appointment.
