This job may be filled at either level. The INDUSTRIAL WASTE INSPECTOR I is the training level class of the series. Incumbents learn to perform inspections of industrial firms to recognize violations. The INDUSTRIAL WASTE INSPECTOR II level is the journey level class of the series. Incumbents independently conduct the full range of inspections of industrial firms and issue citations for violations. This class differs from the Industrial Waste Inspector I class by the greater technical knowledge, and larger scope of projects assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Applicants must possess a valid California Class C driver license; - AND - for the INDUSTRIAL WASTE INSPECTOR I level, applicants must have two years of experience performing the duties of a laboratory technician or sub-professional engineering class or equivalent, - AND - Completion of 12 semester units in biology, chemistry or closely related field. For the INDUSTRIAL WASTE INSPECTOR II level, one year of experience performing the duties of an Industrial Waste Inspector I; - OR - Two years' experience conducting industrial wastewater treatment inspection to detect offensive industrial waste and recommending solutions, - AND - Completion of 12 semester units in biology, chemistry or closely related field - OR - Two years of additional qualifying experience. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Water Technology, or related field. Completion of an Environmental Compliance Inspection certification. For the INDUSTRIAL WASTE INSPECTOR II : Industrial processes and where waste streams are generated; standard methods for testing of industrial pollutants, sampling techniques and control instrumentation; flow measuring techniques; chain of custody procedures for court samples; Solvent Management/Toxic Organic Management Plans; rain diversion and/or treatment processes; Districts' wastewater regulations; policies and guidelines including Combustible Gas Monitoring Systems (CGMS) and Spill Containment Guidelines; waste minimization methods; effects to sewerage systems and ground waters caused by the intrusion of untreated industrial waste. The Opportunity We are pursuing qualified candidates to fill Elevator Mechanic positions in the Maintenance & Operations Section. Selected candidates will maintain, inspect, and repair operating and safety features of elevators, dumbwaiters, and escalators and maintain and inspect electronic control panels, switches, relays, signal devices, and other related equipment. These positions also are responsible for the inspection and repair of hoist motors and machinery, governors, door mechanisms, cables, hydraulic buffers, pumps, rails, and other related equipment. Incumbents in these positions must exercise a knowledge of elevator and escalator maintenance, inspection, and repair procedures, techniques, and safety practices and of the equipment and tools necessary to perform the maintenance and repair work. Essential Job Functions Position Responsibilities Tests and adjusts general operating and safety features of elevators, dumbwaiters, and escalators such as speed, acceleration, leveling, braking, emergency stop, and alarm bell. Maintains and repairs electronic control panels, switches, relays, signal devices, electric motors, generators and related equipment. Inspects, adjusts, maintains, and repairs hoist motors and machinery, governors, door mechanisms, cables, hydraulic buffers, pumps, brakes, rails, guides and related equipment. Determines the need for and performs major overhaul or replacement of defective equipment. Maintains work records. Maintains tools and equipment. Drives automotive equipment to and from work sites.
