Job Summary Under general supervision of the Supervising Plumber, the Plumber works independently or as a team member to perform the full range of skilled plumbing work including the installation, maintenance, inspection, modification, remodel and repair of mechanical plumbing equipment and fixtures for water, gas, oil, steam, sewage, fire sprinkler/prevention, and refrigeration-related plumbing systems, to ensure a clean, safe and attractive learning environment. The incumbent in this classification may also provide instruction and lead direction to unskilled and semi-skilled assistants. The Maintenance & Operations unit of Facilities Development & Operations provides maintenance and operations services to a University campus spread across multiple sites comprised of +150 acres, 81 buildings, and more than six million gross square feet. The Plumbing Shop is one of seven skilled trades shops within Maintenance & Operations and is comprised of a supervising plumber, one lead plumber, three facilities maintenance mechanics, and eight journey-level plumbers. The Shop reports up, through the supervising plumber who provides supervision, oversight, and guidance. Key Responsibilities Perform the full range, at a journey level, of skilled plumbing work including installation, maintenance, inspection, modification, remodel and repair of mechanical plumbing equipment and fixtures for water, gas, oil, steam, sewage, fire sprinkler/prevention, and refrigeration-related plumbing systems, including automated plumbing systems. Maintain, troubleshoot, and test plumbing systems, including backflow prevention devices. Assemble, install, and repair pumps, pipes, fittings, and fixtures; cut, thread and weld pipes. Inspect completed work for conformance with specifications, requirements and compliance with applicable building and safety codes and regulations. Participate in the maintenance and operations of a plumbing shop including cleaning, maintaining, and servicing tools and equipment used in the performance of duties.
