POSITION PURPOSE / IMPORTANT APPLICATION INFORMATION The Seasonal Specialist positions are responsible for a variety of maintenance work including mowing, edging, planting, irrigating, fertilizing, and light construction. These positions work in a variety of areas including Athletic Fields, Greenhouse, Open Space and, Parks, Mechanics, Standley Lake, and the Promenade. These positions are physically demanding in nature with exposure to extreme weather conditions. Most positions work four 10-hour days during the week (Monday through Thursday or Tuesday through Friday) or at Standley Lake (Friday through Monday), however hours may vary with possible weekend, holiday, and special events. Some positions available beginning in March. Most positions will begin after April 14th and last through October 10th. Assists in applying granular and liquid fertilization applications 3. Operates light and heavy equipment including chippers, chainsaws, landscape construction equipment, skid-steers, industrial mowers, pick-up trucks (as approved by supervisor), mowers, backpack blowers, small dump trucks (as approved by supervisor), or similar equipment 4. Performs general custodial work at public facilities and open space areas including removing trash and cleaning of shelters and restrooms 5. Painting designated facilities and structures 6. Assists with a variety of construction-related projects and playground maintenance 7. Assists an Irrigator while making repairs 8. Performs irrigation system checks to ensure the system is operating efficiently 9. Possesses a valid driver’s license and maintains a safe driving record (for those approved to drive) 10. provide water testing, basic mechanical adjustments, and water calibrations as instructed Programming - Assist the Recreation Specialist - Aquatics in programming and scheduling the natatorium Schedule or assist in scheduling aquatic staff to meet usage patterns and safety requirements of pool area Spend majority of your daily shift on or around the pool deck Scheduled in lifeguard rotations Assist with RecTrac, program management, and contacting participants/guests as needed Teaching - Lead and supervise teaching, training, recruiting, and certification programs Coordinate and conduct in-service trainings for lifeguard and aquatic staff Teach specified classes such as CPR, AED, first aid, lifeguard training, progressive swim lessons Prepare lesson plans as needed; GENERAL PURPOSE: Responsible for helping to organize and control classes under the direction of the Aquatics Specialist. Must be available to work some evenings, weekend and holiday hours. The salary range for this position is $14.42 - $17.98 , depending on qualifications and experience. Position will remain open until filled. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Enhances Loveland Park & Recreation image and ensures a quality visit for guests by assisting in the implementation of lesson plans, teaching and supervision of guests enrolled in the swim program. Complete required in-house swim aide training, attend swim instructor trainings to stay current on teaching methods as appropriate. Handle emergencies according to standard procedure. Inspect classroom/program environment and equipment to ensure safety. Complete administrative tasks such as attendance sheets and class evaluations. Disseminate and promote Parks and Recreation program information; educate users of potential opportunities and services available. Directs public to proper locations; provides general facility use instructions; enforces facility policy and procedure by informing guests of existing policies. OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS: Maintains order in classes to ensure a safe environment and promote a learning atmosphere. May be required to cross train into other areas for duties as assigned. JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge, skills and abilities : Must possess excellent customer service skills and be able to communicate effectively and diplomatically with guests, co-workers and facility management team. Must demonstrate good judgment and decision-making in handling difficult situations involving facility guests. Must be able to follow written and verbal direction. Must possess the ability to make sound judgments, exercise conflict resolution, and exhibit patience when dealing with stressful situations. Must demonstrate exceptional swimming skills and be able to impart those skills to class members. Must be at least 14 years of age. Education and/or experience : Customer service experience or training preferred. Prior experience in high level swimming classes and demonstrated ability in a variety of swim strokes preferred. Licensure and/or certifications : Current CPR & First Aid required or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire date. Possession of Swim Instructor Aide class certification highly desirable.
