Description The City of Laguna Beach Community Development Department is seeking customer service-oriented individuals to fill the positions of Permit Technician and Senior Permit Technician! A 4% Cost of Living Increase is scheduled for 07/01/2024. The Position: Under general supervision, assists the public at the Community Development Department front counter; provides information on department services; accepts, processes and reviews forms, plans and permit applications for building, and determines completeness of necessary documents. The Position Under direct supervision, Operator II's perform work activities related to the operation of sewage treatment and recycling processes and equipment. Summary of Duties Meet reclaimed water distribution requirements and consistently achieve 100% compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal environmental permit requirements. Perform all assigned operational duties required to operate the plant efficiently and for responding to emergencies and changing conditions within the plant, including: daily plant process and equipment inspections; review of process performance; process efficiency testing; solids handling and disposal; maintenance of daily log of operations; order and receive bulk chemical deliveries; Dissolved Oxygen profile testing; 30-minute settling Sludge Volume Index (SVI) testing; chlorine residual testing; turbidity testing; H2S testing; micro-organism examination; calibration and maintenance of monitoring equipment. For degrees obtained outside of the U.S., an official equivalency evaluation is required. Experience Two (2) years of experience in the operation of a sewage treatment plant, incorporating biological pond treatment, preliminary and primary treatment, Biological Nutrient Removal (BNR) activated sludge treatment, tertiary treatment, and solids handling facilities is required. Additional Requirements This position requires the possession of a valid driver's license. Candidates considered for hire must provide proof of a valid driver's license and current copy of their driving record. Possess a valid California Drivers License at time of appointment. Within thirty (30) days of appointment must obtain a valid Commercial Instructional Permit. Within six (6) months must obtain and maintain a valid Commercial Class B California Driver's License with required endorsements and without air brake restriction. Selection Process The examination process may consist of the following: Written Exam -100%: A multiple-choice job related written examination may be administered which will be worth 100% of your score in determining your eligibility and placement on the eligible list. The written examination is designed to assess a candidate's knowledge in the following areas: candidate's ability to effectively provide lead direction to staff, train subordinates, interpersonal relations, ability to diagnose transit equipment problems with engines (gasoline and diesel), suspension and steering, brakes, air conditioning systems, hydraulic systems, ignition and fuel systems; AND knowledge of the operating principles of the use of tools/equipment used in the repair/maintenance of transit vehicles and safety practices. Candidates must achieve a passing score to qualify for the eligible list. The written examination has been tentatively scheduled for the week of: October 23, 2023. Veteran Preference Regulations Candidates applying for veteran's preference are required to submit a copy of their DD214 with their application during the specified filing period. Evidence must be presented to indicate that the candidate was discharged honorably from the military service. Veterans, including City employees, must resubmit proof of honorable service for every examination for which veteran's preference credit is requested.
