Job Description


Candidate must have anAssociate's degree in construction technology and six (6) years experience in public works inspection.

Licenses and Certificates : Texas Class "C" Driver's License or equivalent issued by another state.

General Purpose

Under direction, plan, direct and coordinate the inspection of civil and public works projects, and supervise staff.

Typical Duties

Manage, direct and coordinate civil and public works inspections. Involves: Oversee daily operations of the construction division. Enforce project plans, specifications, City codes and regulations. Review plans and specifications prepared by staff and consultants for design problems and compliance to standards. Oversee adherence to divisional policies, city and state codes and regulations. Review City Ordinances to meet up to date requirements. Make decisions effecting public safety. Conduct final inspections prior to final approvals. Review inspectors' daily reports. Prepare construction progress reports. Review plans and specs for construction issues. Consult with architects, engineers and other governmental entities to discuss project completion issues such as retention basins, streets, storm sewers, earthwork and building construction. Assure compliance with specifications and construction schedules. Monitor and supervise project inspectors. Log and schedule inspection requests and maintain fleet maintenance records. Prepare written responses to contractor claims. Investigate citizen complaints, take corrective action, and respond appropriately. Respond to emergencies.

Supervise assigned staff. Involves: Schedule, assign, instruct in, guide and check work. Appraise employee performance and review evaluations by subordinates. Provide for training and development; enforce personnel rules and regulations, and work behavior standards firmly and impartially. Counsel, motivate and maintain harmony. Interview applicants. Recommend hiring, termination, transfers, discipline, merit pay or other employee status changes. Enforce safety rules and regulations.

Salary Range: $42,361.92 - $57,580.43 per year
The starting salary is generally at the beginning of the salary range.
