Position Description Under direction of a supervisor or management, performs a variety of operational, supportive, and administrative duties within assigned division of the District Attorney’s Office; provides information and services to crime victims and witnesses; provides trial support; coordinates victim and witness court appearances; and performs related work as required. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS District Attorney Services Specialist I This is the entry-level class for District Attorney Services Specialist series. Incumbent will process reports and documents in strict adherence to State law and Department procedures. Incumbent is expected to keep current on changes in report and document processing requirements. Incumbent will operate a Departmental case management system and related systems in strict accordance with the law. This class series requires the ability to provide appropriate information and answer basic questions from the public related to the criminal justice system, both in-person and over the telephone. District Attorney Services Specialist II This is the journey level position within the series. In addition to the above, incumbents will be assigned to more increasingly difficult tasks within the Department, including being responsive to the needs of victims of crimes, demonstrating sensitivity to and establishing rapport with victims of crime, and exhibiting emotional stability under conditions of high stress. Incumbents will be able to assist victims in recovering their personal property held in evidence, facilitate victim compensation applications, and provide court accompaniment. Incumbent is eligible for assignment to the Victim Services division, wherein Incumbent must successfully complete required trainings and must exhibit a high level of understanding of the specific duties and prohibited activities under prevailing program restrictions, including VOCA regulations, State and Federal grantor regulations, and the Penal Code. District Attorney Services Specialist III This is the advanced level position within the series. In addition to the above, responsibilities require the frequent use of initiative and independent judgment in scheduling and coordination of office activities and in dealing with sensitive assignments. Incumbents are responsible for the more complex assignments, including vertical assignments to a trial team in complex and high-profile cases, and work with greater independence from close review. Incumbents can work effectively with victims, witnesses, and prosecutors with limited supervision in more serious cases and in rapidly changing situations and circumstances. Incumbents may arrange for transportation, escort, and support for witnesses and victims during court appearances in more serious cases. District Attorney Services Specialist IV This is the senior level position within the series. In addition to the above, incumbents will work with minimal review, may be assigned to carry out special assignments in support of the assigned division, and may be part of complex multi-disciplinary teams. Incumbents may be tasked with collecting data and preparing reports for their assigned division of the Department and may act in a lead capacity by providing training and guidance to subordinates and developing and maintaining special programs. SELECTION PROCEDURE Written Examination (100%) The written examination consists of the POST Entry Level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLETB). The Position Forensic Specialists perform a combination of security and client care duties in a secure mental health facility for treatment/evaluation of the mentally and/or medically ill offender and/or offenders whose competency requires evaluation. Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation. Southern Nevada Adult Mental Health Services (SNAMHS) is hiring Forensic Specialists at the Stein Forensic Hospital location. This facility provides inpatient, competency restoration for persons with alleged criminal charges. All persons committed and ordered by the courts are to remain in Forensic custody in a secure facility. The Forensic Specialist will perform law enforcement duties, which include transportation, community outings, community housing inspections, legal processes, and investigations. Forensic Specialists will also perform health care duties that include ambulation and supervision of basic activities of daily living. A Forensic Specialist is a hybrid position, serving as a Certified Category III, Peace Officer, and a Certified Mental Health Professional. This exciting position offers incumbents the opportunity to serve the community in the Health Care and Law Enforcement setting, providing clinical support and maintaining safety and security in a secure facility. The incumbents will work in a training capacity for the first 12 months, completing a Peace Officer Academy, with a Category III certification, beginning the Mental Health Certification Courses. They will serve as support for Forensic Specialist II and Forensic Specialist III with daily operational needs. Forensic Specialists auto progression to Forensic II and III occur with the recommendation of the appointed authority when minimum qualifications are met, and the incumbent is performing satisfactorily. Special Notes Applicants must meet current Peace Officer Standards Training (POST) requirements as established in the Nevada Revised Statutes and Nevada Administrative Code. Incumbents employed at either the Forensic Specialist I or Forensic Specialist II must successfully complete the required level of P.O.S.T. certification training as required by law in order to progress to the next level in the series. Some positions require incumbents to obtain and maintain certification as a mental health technician per NRS 433.279 as a condition of continuing employment. Some positions require CPR certification within six months of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. Special Requirements Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment. This position is subject to call-out or call-back in case of emergencies or staff shortages or be placed on standby status if necessary. Working overtime on short notice, weekends and/or holidays is required. Applicants must successfully complete a pre-employment physical and be free of active tuberculosis.
