Collections Management / Historic Preservation: • Monitor and care for objects in the exhibit and in on-site storage, keeping site collections records, monitoring environmental conditions. • Handle all collection’s inquiries, accessions, and acquisitions. • Communicate with Peebles Island collections management staff for the purposes of research, acquisitions, and collections monitoring and uploads environmental monitoring data monthly. • Under direction of site manager, will be responsible for digitization of site archives and records. • Attend collections trainings and be responsible for the site’s research library, assigning call numbers, spine labels and keeping new acquisitions entered in a timely fashion. • Maintain archive of ongoing historic preservation and restoration efforts on the masonry structures Crown Point State Historic Site. Museum: • Oversee and participate in many critical aspects of museum operations. • Assist in interviewing and hiring seasonal museum and interpretive staff, training museum and interpretive staff in customer service and interpretation, and providing front-line customer service, tours, and interpretive programs to historic site visitors. • Collect and keep track of attendance, revenue, and donations. • Manage the museum gift shop. • Assist to maintain organized and clean offices and public spaces and keeps the office /Museum /Visitor Center areas safe and welcoming for staff, researchers & visitors. • Obtain training in museum standards, state operations, state policy and procedures, site operations and historical interpretation. Office / Maintenance: • Work with the Historic Site Manager in supervising and training of seasonal staff members, as well as interns and volunteers. • Serve as a liaison for information technology projects and digital history initiatives with partner organizations, NYS ITS, and other entities as required. • May assist with service requests, and onsite troubleshooting of information technology equipment. • Regularly maintain internal controls and completing required daily, weekly, monthly checks and audits. Assisting in various aspects of site operations. • May enter payroll, make bank deposits, payment of invoices through state accounting & tracking systems. Collections Management / Historic Preservation: • Monitor and care for objects in the exhibit and in on-site storage, keeping site collections records, monitoring environmental conditions. • Handle all collection’s inquiries, accessions, and acquisitions. • Communicate with Peebles Island collections management staff for the purposes of research, acquisitions, and collections monitoring and uploads environmental monitoring data monthly. • Under direction of site manager, will be responsible for digitization of site archives and records. • Attend collections trainings and be responsible for the site’s research library, assigning call numbers, spine labels and keeping new acquisitions entered in a timely fashion. • Maintain archive of ongoing historic preservation and restoration efforts on the masonry structures Crown Point State Historic Site. Museum: • Oversee and participate in many critical aspects of museum operations. • Assist in interviewing and hiring seasonal museum and interpretive staff, training museum and interpretive staff in customer service and interpretation, and providing front-line customer service, tours, and interpretive programs to historic site visitors. • Collect and keep track of attendance, revenue, and donations. • Manage the museum gift shop. • Assist to maintain organized and clean offices and public spaces and keeps the office /Museum /Visitor Center areas safe and welcoming for staff, researchers & visitors. • Obtain training in museum standards, state operations, state policy and procedures, site operations and historical interpretation. Community Outreach / Digital History: • Responsible for public relations including writing press releases, updating the site’s social media pages with appropriate and timely entries, updating community calendars, blogs, and websites; and ensuring accuracy of event information. • Assist the regional public affairs coordinator in leading efforts to increase the digital reach and presence of the historic site in collaboration with partners, NYS ITS, and the Friends of Crown Point State Historic Site. • Conduct social media outreach, supplying content, and ensuring a robust site presence across various digital platforms. THE POSITION The City of Ventura's Public Works Department is accepting applications for the position of Senior Civil Engineer . DEFINITION To plan, organize, direct and supervise assigned professional engineering activities; and to perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS The Supervisor level recognizes positions that perform full, first-line supervisory responsibilities including planning, assigning, and evaluating the work of subordinates and are responsible for a program area within a work unit or department. SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED Receives general direction from management personnel. Exercises direct supervision over assigned professional, technical, and clerical personnel. EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: Recommend and assist in the implementation of assigned unit goals and objectives; establish schedules and methods for assigned area of responsibility; implement policies and procedures. Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise and review the work of staff involved in design, construction, land development, traffic engineering, transportation planning, solid waste management/landfill operation, dependent special district engineering/administration, or flood control district engineering/ administration. Evaluate operations and activities of assigned responsibilities; recommend improvements and modifications; prepare various reports on operations and activities. Perform highly complex and difficult professional engineering work requiring a high level of independent judgement and technical expertise; review computations and make decisions concerning difficult or complex engineering problems; approve engineering project designs. Participate in budget preparation and administration; prepare cost estimates for budget recommendations; submit justifications for staff and equipment; monitor and control expenditure. Participate in the selection of staff; provide or coordinate staff training; conduct performance evaluations; recommend discipline; implement discipline procedures as directed. Answer questions and provide information to the public; investigate complaints and recommend corrective action as necessary to resolve complaints. Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other County employees and the public using principles of good customer service. Perform related duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Experience and Training Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be: Experience: Two years of responsible professional engineering experience performing duties similar to an Assistant Engineer with Placer County. Training: Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering or a related field. Required License or Certificate Possession of a Certificate of Registration as a Professional Engineer in an appropriate discipline as issued by the State of California. May need to possess a valid driver's license as required depending on the position. Proof of adequate vehicle insurance and medical clearance may also be required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Knowledge of: Principles and practices of civil engineering as applied to public works projects/programs within area of assigned unit responsibility. Computer software applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, graphics, databases, and project scheduling and management. Equipment, tools and materials used in civil engineering as applied to area of assigned responsibility. Principles of supervision, training and performance evaluations. Principles of budget monitoring. Principles and practices of work safety. Pertinent local, State and Federal laws, ordinances and rules. Ability to: Organize, implement and direct professional engineering operations/activities within area of assigned responsibility. On a continuous basis, know and understand all aspects of the job; intermittently analyze work papers, reports and special projects; identify and interpret technical and numerical information; observe and problem solve operational situations, technical policies and procedures. On a continuous basis, sit at desk for long periods of time; intermittently, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist while performing occasional field work; intermittently twist to reach equipment surrounding desk; perform simple grasping and fine manipulation; use telephone, and write or use a keyboard to communicate through written means; regularly lift heavy weight. Supervise, train and evaluate assigned staff. Interpret and explain pertinent County and department policies and procedures. Assist in the development and monitoring of an assigned program budget. Develop and recommend policies and procedures related to assigned operations. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Work with various cultural and ethnic groups in a tactful and effective manner. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. SELECTION PROCEDURE Training & Experience Rating (100%) Based upon responses to the supplemental questionnaire, the applicant’s education, training, and experience will be evaluated using a pre-determined formula. Scores from this evaluation will determine applicant ranking and placement on the eligible list. CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT Prior to the date of hire, applicants must undergo a fingerprint test by the Department of Justice, pass a medical examination (which may include a drug screening and possibly a psychological evaluation), sign a constitutional oath, and submit proof of U.S. citizenship or legal right to remain and work in the U.S. For some positions, applicants may also be required to submit proof of age, undergo a background investigation (which may include a voice stress analysis and/or a polygraph), and/or be bonded.
