Position Description The purpose of this position is to provide clinical and clerical support to the school-based clinics and to ensure customer service needs are met in a professional manner. This position also assists the Nurse Practitioner (NP)/Physician’s Assistant (PA), MD, Nutritionist (RD), Health Educator (HE), and mental health staff with client (customer) care as needed. Job Duties and Responsibilities Prepare clients for visit, obtaining height, weight, BMI, vital signs as needed and current concern. Document results in electronic medical record -NextGen.Assist medical providers in clinic treatment procedures such as IUD (intrauterine device) insertions, dressing wounds and immunizations.Perform lab tests as directed by medical provider including urinalysis dipstick, rapid strep, hemoglobin, urine pregnancy tests. Perform venipuncture as needed.Prepare lab specimens for lab courier.Administer over the counter medications as directed by medical providers and document in medical record.Ensure billing encounter forms accurately reflect provider, diagnoses and services rendered in the electronic medical record billing charge template(superbill).Greet all clients as they enter the clinic for appointments and verify and/or change demographic and insurance information in the electronic practice management system. Utilize electronic medical record/practice management system to record clinical data, register and schedule appointments, review records and run regular reports.Verify insurance in state database and immunizations in Minnesota Immunization database and in the MPS student record (Discovery) at very visit. Assist clients in completing registrations and Minnesota Family Planning Program applications as indicated. Make referrals to agencies to assist with health insurance coverage, as needed.Maintain all client records/charts and other correspondence regarding clinic inquiries. Utilize electronic medical record/practice management system to record clinical data, register and schedule appointments, review records and run regular reports.Maintain confidentiality of all client data. Adhere to HIPAA policies. Maintain waiting room environment in such a way that is conducive to confidentiality. Complete MA only visits including immunizations. This includes contraceptives, vaccines, and condoms among other services provided.Participate in Public Health Emergency Preparedness training and response as needed and assigned by the department. WORKING CONDITIONS: Medical clinic in a high school setting. Working with adolescent client base. Required Qualifications MINIMUM EDUCATION: Completion of Medical Assisting program from an accredited school. MINIMUM EXPERIENCE Two years of related experience. Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS: Must have current medical assistant certification or registration (CMA, RMA or NCMA) within one year of SBC employment. Also requires completion of 60 credits every five years to ensure continuing certification. More health systems are requiring certification in order to accept coding of various procedures.
