Introduction Provides direct support to the Solid Waste Services Supervisor in the residential, brush and commercial programs. Operates a refuse collection truck to include a side loader, front loader and roll-off truck to collect a wide variety of containers, bins, and/or boxes for the section to which assigned. Serves as a relief driver for a variety of Solid Waste routes. Work Environment/Physical Demands Operate a variety of standard office equipment including computer, telephone, calculator, copy and fax machines requiring continuous and repetitive arm, hand and eye movement. Sit for extended periods of time while driving a large sanitation truck maintaining constant vigilance to the surrounding area. Reach overhead, bend, and stoop repeatedly; climb up and down ladders; work in rough, uneven alleys. Lift and move up to 50 pounds or more on a continuous basis. Visual , muscular, and manual dexterity to service equipment; use a rake, shovel, pitchfork, and/or broom; perform manual labor on an ongoing basis; operate equipment, two-way radio, common hand tools, such as hammer, saw, screwdriver; and computer. The ES Lab’s mission is to provide high-quality analytical lab services for the City’s and regional partners responding to environmental regulations, supporting research and developing solutions to environmental problems facing the greater Tacoma area and Puget Sound. This position provides management and technical oversight for the Environmental Services Laboratory at CUW. This position has final responsibility for lab quality assurance, work product timeliness, lab safety, laboratory equipment and supplies, staff development and training, operational budget, and spending approvals within the laboratory. This position is directly responsible or influential in meeting a number of key environmental regulations by performing analyses of environmental samples for the Clean Water Act, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, Comprehensive Environmental Response Compensation and Liability Act, Model Toxics Control Act, and hazardous waste designation rules. Position Summary Classified as:Laborer Facilities Services is continually building a pool of applicants interested in hourly-intermittent temporary employment. Multiple positions are filled as needed and appointments end on or before June 30, 2024 with the possibility of reappointment based on budget, operational needs, and job performance.
