Job Description

Under general direction, Equal Employment Opportunity Officer assists in the development, implementation and evaluation of statewide equal opportunity and affirmative action programs. Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others. Under the direction of the Department of Public Safety's (DPS) HR Manager, this position is responsible for evaluating, establishing, updating and managing the DPS Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), Affirmative Action (AA) and other diversity inclusion initiatives and pertinent policies; serve as a consultant to all levels of employees regarding workplace conflicts, and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accommodation matters; partners with the State Sexual Harassment and Discrimination Investigation Unit to investigate and address complaints; and develops training programs related to EEO and affirmative action, cultural and diversity awareness, sexual harassment and discrimination prevention, and mediation matters. The EEO Officer gathers and maintains pertinent training records, analyzes data, prepares statistical reports and make recommendations to high level DPS officials; partners with DPS recruiters to carry out dynamic recruitment initiatives and participates in community events to help promote awareness of career opportunities at DPS; develops proactive measures to ensure DPS' continued compliance with employment laws and policies; assists in preparing effective and defensible position statements; and tracks, reviews, and analyzes complaints and trends and makes recommendations for positive changes to established processes and practices. The incumbent will network and keep abreast of nation-wide employment trends, case laws, and changes to employment laws; and serves as the liaison in managing the Department's ADA website. This position may supervise other HR staff. The ideal candidate is detailed-oriented, communicates effectively orally and in writing; is able to establish, maintain and promote effective and professional working relationships with others; is knowledgeable in employment laws; can strictly adhere to maintaining highly sensitive and confidential information; and can work effectively in a fast-paced law enforcement environment.
