Safety Specialists are assigned to the Division of Industrial Relations to promote recognized safety practices among businesses covered by State and federal safety and health laws and regulations. Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. The Safety Specialist, Enforcement position is in the Department of Business and Industry, Division of Industrial Relations, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Enforcement Section in Reno, NV. The Safety Specialist will undergo training necessary to perform safety inspections at workplaces throughout Northern Nevada. Once trained, the Safety Specialist will perform inspections independently and enforce State and federal safety laws and regulations (e.g. NRS 618, NAC 618, 29 CFR 1910, 29 CFR 1926). Specific responsibilities will include conducting safety, health, and accident and discrimination investigations, preparing and submitting case file reports, providing technical advice and assistance to governmental officials, employees, employers, etc., and receiving oral complaints and referrals. Incumbent will be required to drive; therefore, a valid drivers license is required.
