About the Role:

Provides support services for youth and families from the perspective of an experienced parent/family member whose child has received or who is receiving services from the mental health system. Promotes family driven, youth guided principals by ensuring that program staff provides services in accordance to these principals. Provides wraparound facilitation for youth and families to develop plans of care. Coordinates the community wraparound council to include collaboration with community partners. Guides, emotionally supports, and assists children and families. Provides support services for families receiving services from the program and community partners. Population served is within the SAMHSA System of Care grant.

Location: 3010 Grand Ave, Waukegan, IL

Hours: Monday and Tuesday (9:00 am - 2:30 pm) & Wednesday and Thursday ( 8:00 am - 12:00 pm)

Skills and Experience

  • Ability to use personal experience to establish a warm and empathic connection with the family.
  • Explains CABS program to client’s family
  • Assists family through the intake, referral, and connection with LCHDCHC BHS or other agencies.
  • Works closely with CABS staff to identify family needs.
  • Schedules home visits to assist with process, as needed.
  • Provides support and advocacy for families receiving services.
  • Assists clients in the development and implementation of individualized treatment plans.
  • Provides supportive peer counseling.
  • Assists in the development of independent living skills curriculum.
  • Assists in leading independent living skills classes and groups.
  • Assist in the development and leading of advocacy training groups.
  • Plans and prepares family group activities.
  • Assists in providing community consultation and education, as assigned.
  • Assists in the development and leading of mental health recovery groups.
  • Plans and prepares family/parent groups and activities.
  • Links families with other parents of special needs children.

Education, Qualifications, and Certification:

  • Requires a high school diploma or GED certificate.
  • Personal experience as a consumer of social services.
  • Bi-lingual English/Spanish speaking preferred.
