JOB SUMMARY

The City of San Marcos is looking for energetic individuals to staff our Summer Fun Program. The program provides area children, ages 7 thru 14, with a fun-filled summer that includes games, activities and field trips! This is a temporary employment. The program runs for 8 weeks from June 8th to August 7th. There will also be 1 week for training June 1st -5thand 1 week for in service (TBD) totaling 10 weeks. An exit interview with Youth Services Manager may be required at close of program.

The Summer Fun Program Coordinator reports to the Youth Services Manager. The Program Coordinator plans, coordinates and administers the City's Summer Fun Youth Program; organizes and monitors program activities; conducts counseling sessions; prepares and maintains program records; and supervises assigned personnel.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DECISION MAKING

Essential Functions
  1. Supervises Assistant Site Supervisor and Activity Leader positions; trains and educates workers concerning City and departmental policies and procedures; supervises and administers program activities on playground campus site for 150 participants.
  2. Supervises and trains approximately 25 summer workers about City and Parks and Recreation policies and procedures; manages and administers the Summer Fun Program.
  3. Prepares and schedules on and off campus site activities for approximately 300 school aged children at 2 playground campus sites.
  4. Drives to each activity site to supervise and train employees; oversees, administers and monitors program activities. Maintains program documentation and responds to "on-call" situations.
  5. On-call 24 hours for any problem or situation which may arise which involves the Summer Fun Recreation program and activities.
  6. Other Miscellaneous Duties:
  • Parent and child counseling.

Decision Making

Trains and monitors approximately 25 temporary employees.
Planning ability; ability to assign appropriate summer personnel for various program activities.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Salary is dependent upon qualifications)

Minimum Requirements
  • An Associate's Degree in Education, Recreation Administration, or related field is required. Commensurate combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Twoyears supervisory experience working with children in recreation and/or education setting is required.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License with acceptable driving record.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification is required during week of training- administered by COSM
  • Required to do Community Services
  • Required to work a full 10 weeks with the program.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Extensive experience working with children is preferred.

Effective communication skills needed to deal with staff members; handling public concerns regarding the Summer Fun Program; child and parent counseling. Ability to deal effectively with several problems at one time; deal appropriately with several individuals in solving problems; analyze various types of data and reach conclusions. Basic calculations for review of enrollment controls.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

Physical requirements include working outdoors in extreme heat, humidity and wind. Occasionally exposed to pool chemicals, slippery surfaces, and noise around crowds and whistles. Subject to standing, sitting, hearing, talking, vision, lifting up to 20 lbs., pushing, pulling, handling, fine dexterity, foot controls, crouching, banding, twisting, climbing, balancing and reaching.
