The Job


The Code Enforcement Division, Fire Hazard and Abatement Programis recruiting for Code Enforcement Field Assistants - Seasonal*who perform manual labor in the abatement of weeds, potential fire hazards, and other public nuisances; operate hand and power tools to assist in the removal of unwanted vegetation; and explain the need and authorization for abatement and abatement procedures to private property owners.

  • Seasonal work is available approximately March - October, depending on department needs with the possibility of being recurrent.
  • Part-time and full-time opportunities may be available. Schedule may vary.
  • Positions report to San Bernardino and are assigned to field assignments throughout the County.
  • These positions are Unclassified positions, which do not attain status as a regular County employee.


Background:Applicants must successfully pass a background check prior to appointment.Physical: This position requires frequent moving, lifting and carrying of items weighing up to 50 lbs., as well as bending, squatting, kneeling, stooping and the ability to use hand and power tools.Travel:Travel throughout the County is required (County vehicle is provided). A valid California Class C driver license and proof ofautomobile liability insuranceis required at time of appointment.

Minimum Requirements

Experience: Six months of full-time equivalent employment experience removing unwanted vegetation by using hand and power tools.

Desired Qualifications

Basiccomputer skills and familiarity, including the use of Computer Tablets, is desirable.
