The department seeks to preserve and enhance CPP’s history, aesthetics, physical assets, and natural ecosystems through coordinated planning, design, and construction of buildings, roads, infrastructure, landscaping, and other physical improvements. As an advocate on behalf of the university and its auxiliaries, FPM strives to provide facilities that meet scope, budget, operational needs, and functional requirements. FPM is comprised of approximately 200 facilities professionals (FTE) who also provide maintenance services, including custodial services, landscaping, recycling, building and mechanical trades, energy and utility management, and fleet and auto services. The workforce is culturally diverse and multilingual. Its composition includes full-time staff throughout FPM who are also earning their degrees and many who have graduated from Cal Poly Pomona. The staff includes licensed architects and engineers, accountants, planners, project managers, administrative staff, carpenters, plumbers, locksmiths, painters, electricians, landscape architects, computer technicians, custodians, and other building and mechanical trade technicians. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Includes but is not limited to picking up ground trash and debris on a daily and weekly schedule, emptying trash, and recycling containers on a daily and weekly schedule. Loading and unloading material into and out of trucks and utility vehicles. Move loaded materials, such as barrels, bags, boxes, and other containers. Sorting, cleaning, and loading paper, pallets, glass, wood, plastic, metal and cardboard, other recyclables, and trash in accordance with program guidelines. Maintain cleanliness of trash and recycling containers. Report work orders as needed to Customer Service. Make reports of safety concerns and of equipment repair needs. Maintain vehicles and moving equipment while demonstrating strict knowledge of and adherence to established safety guidelines and requirements. Maintain records of work completed and problems encountered. Prepare simple records. Have good communication skills and the ability to drive state vehicles. Must be familiar with the usage of simple hand tools and perform minor repairs. Perform event set-up and removal for Commencement and other special events. May assist in grounds maintenance operations. Assist in recycling projects and clean-ups, as well as other related duties as required and instructed. QUALIFICATIONS Ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position; follow verbal and written instructions to ensure safety; perform regular strenuous manual labor; and safely move heavy items in excess of 50 pounds. GENERAL PURPOSE: The incumbent in this position will perform the duties of a General Laborer II for the Storm Drainage Division of the Public Works Department. The incumbent will report to the Crew Supervisor. Work hours are 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., 4 days a week. Incumbent may expect to work overtime as needed. This position is a 10 month max working 40 hours per week with medical coverage option only. The salary range for this position is $16.68- $22.52 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience. Complete basic records related to work performed; may act in a lead capacity on specific jobs; respond to emergency situations in off-hours as required; assist other divisions in maintenance activities as assigned. Qualifications Knowledge of: Technique, material, tools, and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of streets, traffic signing and painting work, and concrete work. Position Summary Under direct supervision, it is the primary responsibility of the Laborer to move heavy objects, assist the grounds and maintenance in unskilled tasks and clean assigned areas of the properties managed by Housing, Dining & Conference Services. Temporary: Position will end on or before August 29, 2024, permanent status cannot be earned in this position. Position Information Performs tasks of the unit. The list below identifies typical unit tasks: Grounds cleaning and hardscape maintenance on Grounds and parking Structures and roads. Performs general cleaning of all campus outdoor areas, clearing drains, sweeping, picking up bulky debris and vegetation, washing trash cans, outdoor ash trays, removing graffiti, tape, stains, posters, etc. Operates power blowers, carpet shampoo machines, power washers, tilters, compactors, extractors and fans Uses other tools and equipment as necessary to insure cleanliness of outdoor campus areas Moving appliances, furniture, equipment and arranging furniture to match floorplans/layouts Cleans catch basins and drains on the grounds Constructs and maintains trash enclosures and other fences, maintains signs, posts signage as needed etc. May assist Grounds landscape staff in grounds work and tree care operations Assists in the moving of furniture and equipment and other requested items for the University events. Clean and extract floods and overflows Waste management activities as follows: Picks up and exchanges garbage containers, tow bins, and tilt bins from assigned areas on campus manually or using the appropriate vehicles- forklifts, trucks, carts, trailers, etc. Collects, transports, and sorts various recycling materials Sweep, sanitize, and clean near trash/recycling receptacles, within carports, trash rooms, and other areas as assigned Cleans, disinfects, and maintains all material handling containers, trash equipment, and adjacent areas Inspect forklifts, pull bins, tractor, and trash compactor daily before operation, performs minor maintenance on wheels, casters, tow links, etc., and reports equipment and work areas Records activities such as transport pickup schedules, collection quantities, corrective work needed on vehicles or equipment, reports observed repair/maintenance items to Facilities Service Desk, read and understand floor plans for Event set ups, and fills out work orders and timesheets. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Abilities: Ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position; follow verbal and written instructions to ensure safety; perform regular strenuous manual labor; and safely move heavy items in excess of 50 pounds. License: Some positions may require possession of a valid California driver’s license. Job Summary Available work schedule: Tuesday through Saturday, 1:30 p.m. - 10 p.m. Reporting to and under general supervision of the Housing Operations Manager, with additional lead work direction provided from other members of the Facilities management team and shop supervisors, the Facilities Worker II (FW II) independently performs a wider range of more complex semi-skilled and basic skilled facilities and systems maintenance, repair and renovation work. The incumbent is trained in specific trade tasks which require a broader knowledge in several trades and a basic knowledge of theories, codes, procedures and general trade practices in applicable trade areas. Key Qualifications The abilities of the FW II would normally be acquired through any combination of experience and training equivalent to three years of hands-on experience in general facilities and systems maintenance and repair, or comparable experience as a trades assistant or laborer with demonstrated proficiency in the required duties. The incumbent must be able to operate all applicable tools, equipment and systems and follow standard written instructions and procedures. In addition, the FW II must possess comprehensive knowledge of specific methods, practices and tools related to facilities and systems maintenance and repair in areas such as plumbing, HVAC, electrical, carpentry, painting, lock, and mechanical system and must demonstrate semi-skilled and basic trade proficiency in multiple trades and maintenance tasks.
