We are currently seeking experienced candidates for the position of BI-DW DevOps Engineer. The CSU Chancellor's Office, located on the waterfront adjacent to the Aquarium of the Pacific in downtown Long Beach, is the headquarters for the nation's largest and most diverse system of higher education. The salary range for this classification is $6,249 TO $12,100 per month.
The California State University, Office of the Chancellor, is seeking a BI-DW DevOps Engineer to perform a critical function in establishing best practices around devops for the CSU, Chancellors Office. DevOps has evolved over the last 15 years as a critical component in delivery against an automated tool stack for securing and deploying code in multiple environments in a testable manner. This person will work on building the devops stack against which all developers code, which be built. They will be responsible for tools such as Jenkins, Airflow, Terraform, Ansible in order to orchestrate and configure instances. This includes dataops, security, architecture, and CI/ CD components. The incumbent is responsible for leading and ensuring integration of infrastructure operations in alignment with CSU Business Intelligence/ Data Warehouse's priorities in order to support CHRS, as well as utilization of insightful approaches to devops management, devops analysis and delivery of innovative solutions to complex business problems. The incumbent will have experience and knowledge of full life cycle of devops implementation processes, from analyzing business requirements through leading cloud design, infrastructure design, and cloud security to keep with CSU Business Intelligence/ Data Warehouse's data and operations in alignment with state and federal standards and requirements assuring safety of CHRS data.
Under the general supervision, of the Director, Cloud Data Engineering, the BI/DW DevOps Engineer will perform tasks and duties as follows:
-Accept change and exhibiting flexibility in working within teams and dealing with department issues and concerns.
-Help fellow team members in a team-based work environment and participating in cross-functional and process improvement teams as necessary.
-Attend and participate in team meetings and projects as assigned and facilitate and lead meetings as needed.
-Solve as many of his/her own problems as possible; resolving issues close to the action rather than passing responsibility for solutions to others.
-Maintain a customer service orientation, challenging him/herself and colleagues to think creatively and broadly.
-Work closely with the central application staff to deliver updates and new functionality to the data warehouse.
-Work closely with the team, application developers, and campuses to develop incremental updates, historical and analytic components for the warehouse.
-Prepare technical, functional, and training documentation and presentations for internal and campus use.
-Present information about the warehouse to campus users.
TECHNICAL DESIGN AND ARCHITECTURE
-Perform detailed analysis to understand the various source system data to support the development of data maps and implement devops processes.
-Lead design efforts between Chancellor's Office and systemwide programmers and application teams to develop interfaces between the cloud environment and current on-prem solutions.
-Participate in reviewing and contributing to the design of the cloud architecture.
-Work closely with the security team to ensure the environment is designed and secured in line with CSU Business Intelligence/ Data Warehouse policies to supports CHRS.
-Identify, define, and create documentation of the technical and devops processes.
-Develop and oversee implementation of strategies to move data between on-prem and cloud solution hybrid solution strategy.
-Establish, implement, and enforce architecture and devops standards.
This position requires:
-A bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent combination of education and related experience is required
-Possess 5 - 7 years of experience implementing and maintaining cloud solutions, preferably on AWS.
-Must be cloud certified preferably AWS devops professional
-Industry knowledge in Higher education preferred.
-Broad understanding of CI/CD, Code Coverage, Unit Testing, Integration Testing, Regression Testing, Source Code Control Versioning, Code Automation, Code Branching.
-Ability to concisely and thoughtfully develop and communicate Data Lake goals, objectives, and status is essential, both orally and in writing.
-Demonstrated experience with complex, multifaceted projects required.
-Ability to prioritize conflicting needs, handle matters expeditiously, proactively, and follows-through on projects to successful completion, often with deadline pressures without supervision, is required.
-Exceptional analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities are essential.
-Understanding of cloud, preferably AWS required.
-Experience in Jenkins for Code Automation, Airflow for Job Scheduling, Terraform for resource orchestration, Ansible for resource configuration preferre Git for Source Code Versioning.
-Understanding of Spark (Python or Scala) preferred.
-Experience with logical modeling, logical to physical model rationalization, and analysis of supporting business requirements required.
-Experience providing production support and meeting Operating Level Agreements (OLAs) required.
-Working knowledge of storage, network, server, data integration, security and application design principles is essential.
-In-depth experience with developing scripts and procedures, especially bash required.
-Experience with AWS tools such as EMR, Glue, EC2, IAM/VPC, Redshift preferred.
