The Sheriff's Department is recruiting for Recurrent Advanced Communications Dispatchersfor shift coverage on an ongoing basis. Sheriff's Communications Dispatchers dispatch emergency vehicles to incidents involving public safety. Positions are primarily located in Rialto and Hesperia.
Note: All recurrent positions are in the Unclassified Service and employees do not gain regular status.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
1) Background: Candidates must not have been convicted of a felony and must successfully pass an extensive background investigation which includes a fingerprint check, polygraph, and psychological evaluation.
2)Shifts:Applicants must be available forallshifts; incumbents will be required to workrotatingshifts,weekends,holidays, and evenings, including mandatory overtime; refusal of assigned shift may result in removal from the list or termination. Shift differential is available.
3) Availability:This department is a "24/7" operation, and the incumbent can expect to work rotating, night, weekend, day, and graveyard shifts, as well as holidays and weekends.
Experience: One (1) year of emergency dispatching experience AND one (1)additional year of call-intake (911) or dispatching experience. Qualifying experience must include using a computer-aided dispatching system in a communications center with a law enforcement agency within the past five (5)years.

Certificate: Possession of a 120-hour California P.O.S.T. Basic Dispatch Certificate.

Keyboarding: These positions require typing skills of 35 wpm. Indicate typing speed on the application. A recent certificate of typing speed may be required at the interview.
An excellent candidate for this position will havetwo (2) or moreyears of experiencedispatching peace officers and other emergency personnel to routine and emergency service calls, while prioritizing calls, monitoring locations and status, and keeping other personnel informed. This person will also have certificates showing successful completion of a 40-hour computer-aided dispatching system training course, 120-hour P.O.S.T. certified basic complaint/dispatcher course, and Department of Justice certified CLETS and DMV courses.
Examination :There will be acompetitive evaluationof qualifications based on a review of the Application and Supplemental Questionnaire. It is to your advantage to provide as much relevant and detailed work experience as possible, as resumes will not be reviewed in lieu of the application materials.A typing test may be scheduled or certificate required.
