Several full-time positions available with the Aviation Department, Central Utility Plant Division, 9796 NW 112th Terrace, KCI Airport. Department/Division: Aviation Department, Central Utility Plant Salary Range: $16.64 - $26.86/hour Work Location: 9796 NW 112th Terrace, KCI Airport Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. during training, then placed on shift dependent upon operational needs. Responsibilities Operates and maintains stationary engines and mechanical equipment such as steam boilers, air compressors, chillers, electrical distribution gear to provide utilities such as light, heat, cooling, compressed air, or power for buildings and industrial processes. Reads meters and gauges or automatic recording devices at specified intervals to verify operating conditions. Records data such as temperature of equipment, hours of operation, fuel consumed, temperature or pressure, water levels, analysis of gases, voltage load, and fire system operation. Adjusts manual controls or overrides automatic controls to bring equipment into recommended or prescribed operating ranges, switch to backup equipment or systems, or to shut down equipment. Visually inspects equipment at periodic intervals to detect malfunctions or need for repair, adjustment or lubrication. Maintains equipment by tightening fittings, repacking bearings, replacing packing glands, gaskets, valves, recorders and gauges. Cleans and replaces burners or other components using hand and power tools. Oils and lubricates equipment. Performs water tests and pours chemical additives such as water softener, into treatment tank or lines to prevent scale buildup and to clean boilers and chillers. Records operation and maintenance actions taken during shift in operator's logbook. Qualifications REQUIRES high school graduation and 4 years of experience in a variety of mechanical crafts and trade; OR an equivalent combination of qualifying education and experience. Must possess a valid state-issued driver's license in accordance with City of KCMO policies. May be required to obtain a valid MO Class A, B, or C CDL prior to the end of the probationary period as determined by the department. Must successfully complete a 10-year FAA background check. Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and post-offer physical examination as prescribed by the City. Other Information URGENT!!! Nature of work : (Employee may be assigned other duties as determined by the department.) Inspection of buildings for compliance with all applicable codes and regulations and to ensure that work is done to job specifications and in accordance with approved plans on file. Reviews plans and on site construction progress from inspection to completion to ensure compliance with City codes and ordinances. Perform building inspections on commercial, single-family and multiple-family dwellings to ensure compliance; and be responsible for enforcing the City of Taylor's ordinances regarding property maintenance. Requires a high degree of independence in evaluating plans and construction in various stages. Employee will work under the general direction of the Department Supervisor. Typical Examples of Work : Review of plans submitted by builders to ascertain that requirements are being met; makes both rough and final inspections, re-occupancy inspections and building code compliance on homes, multiple dwellings, commercial, and other buildings; sees that necessary permits have been secured for all construction, alteration, repair or removal work under way; interprets codes to general public, issues and keeps record of violations and makes follow-up investigations to assure compliance; investigates complaints; conducts other inspections as required. Perform re-occupancy inspections and code compliance inspections on single-family and multiple-family dwellings primarily in the Rental Division of the Building Department. Insure that all necessary permits have been secured for the repair or correction of code violations. Follow-up inspections to assure compliance, interpret codes to the general public. Investigate and resolve citizen complaints. Perform visual inspection of exterior property pertaining to property maintenance, issue violations and/or appearance tickets to resolve complaints. Work closely with other departments toward eliminating violations and work closely with prosecuting attorney regarding resolution of tickets, warrants, dismissals and plea agreements. Appear in court as witness to violation of ordinances as needed. Requirements : One year of field inspection experience; graduation from high school or GED. Must be a licensed Building Inspector with the State of Michigan for "Plan Reviewer" and "Building Inspector" pursuant to all State of Michigan requirements.
