Job Description

Several full-time positions available with the Health Department, Environmental Services Division & the Health Homes Division located at 2400 Troost
Salary Range: $18.24-$29.44/hour
Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

As a condition of employment with the City of Kansas City, Missouri Health Department, all new employees will be required to submit or provide documentation of receiving an influenza (Flu) Vaccination.


Responsibilities

Environmental Services: Conducts routine, follow-up, emergency response, complaint, and temporary event inspections on approximately 3,000 food establishments, mobile units and push carts, 600 pools, 100 lodging establishments, and 419 childcare facilities. Administers the City's noise and smoking ordinance. Assists in educating the public on public health laws and regulations including teaching pool operator training classes and food handler training classes. Reviews plan submittals for new/existing facilities to ensure each establishment is in compliance with local health regulations/codes and other duties as assigned.

Healthy Homes: Assists in conducting interviews and surveys to collect information to be used in administrative, fiscal, budgetary, operational, procedural analysis. Conducts healthy homes inspections on rental properties (various types) throughout the City, in compliance with Ordinance 180248. Responds to complaints filed on rental properties in accordance with program guidelines. Compiles and calculates statistical data in planning, implementation, evaluation of public health programs. Plans and conducts a public health program or project of limited complexity. Determines proper methods and techniques to use in promoting the activities of the assigned unit. Delivers speeches and assists in writing reports and articles to stimulate interest. Disseminates information to the community regarding special public health programs. Provides basic information to the public and community organizations concerning specific public health problems, needs, concerns regarding rental housing. Assists an administrative or technical superior in conducting various tasks of rental housing activity, including, but not limited to, property registration.


Qualifications

REQUIRES an accredited Bachelor's degree; OR an equivalent combination of qualifying education and experience. If moving from a non-safety-sensitive position, must pass a pre-employment drug screen and post-offer physical examination as prescribed by the City. For Environmental Services, preference given for experience in the hospitality industry (i.e. food service, hotel/motel, swimming pools/recreational water, childcare) or prior facility inspection experience.
