Summary Description

The Mechanical Technician I/II is responsible for the more complex and difficult duties relating to the installation, maintenance, inspection and servicing of mechanical equipment. The selected candidate will perform preventive and corrective maintenance on a wide variety of pumps, engines and other equipment related to wastewater treatment plants, water treatment plants, wells, booster stations, sewer lift stations and other equipment common to a large wastewater and waterworks system; diagnoses and repairs equipment relating to the District's sewage lift stations, collection system, and related support equipment, ensuring compliance with the general waste discharge orders issued by the California Water Quality Board.

Representative Duties

• Within three (3) months become familiar with the District facilities, locations and equipment control methods.
• Within six (6) months demonstrate sufficient knowledge of the operation and maintenance of the District's facilities and equipment to participate in the Mechanical Maintenance Section Standby.
• Within twelve (24) months become licensed to operate the District's crane by the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO).
• Within twelve (12) months become Confined Space Entry Rescue qualified.

Qualifications

• Has the ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with internal and external customers.
• Is an engaging team player, looking out for the common good of the organization as well as seeking to bring new ideas and innovative thinking to the Mechanical Maintenance Department.
• Possesses a mechanical skill set that will successfully transition into a public water authority.
• Can operate a variety of vehicular and stationary mechanical equipment (e.g. cranes, trucks, tools, pumps, generators) in a safe and effective manner.
• Possesses an education equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by additional courses or training in a maintenance related field required.
• Possesses 2 years of increasingly responsible experience in the maintenance and mechanical repair of equipment used in the collection and treatment of water or wastewater systems.
• When assigned to a Mechanical Technician I, must have or will be required to obtain possession of a valid Grade 1 Mechanical Technology certificate, Grade 1 Collection System Maintenance certificate issued by the California Water Environment Association and Grade 1 Water Distribution Operator License issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board within 18 months of employment.
• When assigned to the Mechanical Technician II, must have or will be required to obtain possession of a valid Grade 2 Mechanical Technology certificate, Grade 1 Collection System Maintenance certificate issued by the California Water Environment Association, and Grade 2 Water Distribution Operator License issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board within 18 months of employment.
• Must be able to respond within a thirty (30) minute time period to the District's corporate yard while on standby duty as well as communicate by telephone while on standby duty.
• Must have or will be required to obtain a valid California Class B Driver's License with Air Brakes and Tank endorsements within 12 months of employment.
