Position Summary
Primary Duties Position available for one year from date of hire with the possibility of renewal.
Working independently, the incumbent will perform the full range of athletic training functions to support the 27 Sport Club teams advised by the Department of Recreational Sports, as well as minimal athletic training functions with the Intramural Program. Responsibilities include coverage in the athletic training room, at team practices and competitions (home and away), on-court/field set-up of athletic training equipment, as well as water and post-practice follow-up care and assessment of injuries. Additionally, incumbent will develop, design and implement appropriate injury treatment plans and rehabilitation plans according to best practice and industry standards, coordinate with the Sport Club Coordinator to ensure adequate coverage of all sports, and perform administrative tasks related to the position.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must possess:
• Comprehensive knowledge of:
• The principles and practices of athletic training including conditioning, injury prevention, injury assessment and rehabilitation.
• Full range of therapeutic modalities and their practical use and physiological basis.
• Other therapeutic preventions and treatments such as taping, bracing, and massage; effective use of rehabilitation and exercise equipment.
• Rules, regulations, and guidelines established by the department, University, and CSU pertaining to student athletes, their training, sports medicine care, and health and safety.
• Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) standards for handling blood borne pathogens.
• Maintaining medical records, including Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards; and following insurance procedures.
• Fluent in the use of standard office equipment (computers, copiers, phones) and standard office software packages such as, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).

Incumbent must possess:
• Strong interpersonal and communications skills to develop effective working relationships with athletes and serve as a liaison among athletes, coaching staff, parents, physicians and other health professionals.
• Full-to-advanced proficiency with a full range of appropriate therapeutic modalities and treatments and rehabilitation and exercise equipment to treat and prevent injuries.

Incumbent must have ability to:
• Demonstrate the leadership, organizational, and administrative skills involved in coordinating an athletic training and sports medicine program.
• Demonstrate full-to-advanced proficiency
• Effectively assessing and evaluating injuries and their severity.
• Developing conditioning and rehabilitation programs and managing and treating injuries.
• Determining the appropriate referrals for athletes to other health care professionals.
• Recognizing life threatening situations and administering the appropriate emergency aid.
• Using a computer to perform medical, insurance and other recordkeeping functions.
• Working in an environment with competing priorities.
• Must be able to perform duties as assigned.

Required Education and/or Experience
Equivalent to bachelor's degree in athletic training, physical education, kinesiology or related field of study or combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities. Course work must include completion of the Board of Certification (BOC) curriculum requirements.
Two years of experience as certified Athletic Trainer in a high school or college environment.

Possess current Board of Certification (BOC) certification for Athletic Trainer.

Recruitment Preferences
Preference may be given to applicants with the following as they may be considered specialized skills:
• Prior experience working in a college/university athletic program, including traveling with sport teams.
• Master's Degree in athletic training, physical education, kinesiology or related field of study.

• Throughout employment in this position incumbent must possess and maintain Board of Certification (BOC) certification for Athletic Trainer, as well as Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid, and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification.
• Throughout employment in this position incumbent must maintain a valid California Driver's License as well as continued completion and compliance of the CSU Defensive Driver's Training course.

Incumbent/applicant will need to be able to perform the essential job functions (duties) of this position with or without reasonable accommodation. This position requires incumbent to stand for long periods of time, use hands for keyboarding and mousing and to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls, use arms and legs and core body muscles, while remaining in one position for long periods, lift, push, pull, or carry equipment and supplies. Must be able to travel across campus to other offices and buildings for meetings and events.

The position requires both indoor and outdoor work environments. The Athletic Training Room is a typical work environment with standard office and athletic training equipment. It is a fast-paced environment which requires as needed, early morning, evening or weekend hours to cover athletic practices and events. Some athletic events require outside work environments regardless of weather conditions. This position will require occasional travel, by automobile or airplane, and overnight stay to travel to trainings and meetings off campus. Locations may include even and uneven walking surfaces, exposure to weather changes such as temperatures, humidity or precipitation.

Eligibility for Affordable Care Act (ACA) benefits is based on an appointment of at least three-quarter time, hired to work a minimum of 130 hours per month over the course of the appointment or works an average of 130 hours or more per month during the measurement period.
