Conditions of Employment
This is a part time, temporary, non-exempt position, with the appointment duration from June through July 2020. Reappointment to this position is dependent upon the individual's performance as well as administrative and budgetary considerations. The university reserves the right to terminate this appointment earlier than the scheduled expiration date.

Reporting to the Director of Lifelong Learning Programs, and taking daily work direction from the EXCEL for Youth Program coordinator, the EXCEL for Youth Program Assistant supports and assists the coordinator of the summer EXCEL for Youth program on the SSU campus. This program provides academic enrichment classes for students entering grades 4th-9th. It is a program of The School of Extended and International Education.

Major duties of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Provide administrative support to the Program Coordinator.
- Deliver instructional and student management support.
- Organize and execute programmatic elements such as Lunch Bunch activities with attention to detail, and a focus on fun and safety.
- Inspire and mentor the High School Teaching Assistants with thoughtful leadership.
- Put parents' minds at ease with a listening ear and a genuine interest in their child's program experience.

Performs other secondary duties as assigned.

Duties take place mostly in an office setting on the campus of Sonoma State University. The normal work schedule is hourly intermittent to meet operational needs of the department. As a non-exempt employee, any request for overtime will be specified and pre-approved by Appropriate Administrator. The normal work schedule is Monday through Friday aligned with regular campus hours. Evening and weekend hours may be required and will be specified only by the supervisor to meet operational needs. The incumbent must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such levels as is determined by the Appropriate Administrator. The position will requires travel, by automobile.

This position requires the following at the minimum:
- At least 1-year experience (school, camp, or other venue) working with children ages 8-14 and have high comfort level supervising and managing children
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to prioritize, organize and follow through with tasks to meet deadlines
- Must be able to take direction and cooperate in a fast-paced environment
- Current first aid and CPR certification
- Ability to work independently and be self-motivated
- Must successfully clear a fingerprint clearance

Must have the ability to effectively communicate with all levels within the university and establish and maintain productive and effective, inclusive working relationships amongst diverse populations including staff, faculty, administration, students, and other internal and external constituents. Must be able to accept constructive feedback and work cooperatively in group situations.
