The Food Service Worker is a temporary position for the City and County of Denver and is associated with the COVID-19 current state of emergency.

The pay for this position is $20.59/hour and requires work on 1st shift from 1:30am to 10:00am for 5 days per week with a variety of daily schedules that include weekends

In this position, you will assist in the behind the scenes food preparation for the Downtown Detention Center. This is a great opportunity to support the City of Denver at a time of great need and be involved in providing a critical service to those in need. The health and wellness of all City workers is of the utmost importance and you will be provided all necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). You will have no contact with detainees as the kitchen is in a secure, separate area of the detention center.

Job responsibilities will include:
  • Downtown Detention Center food preparation for distribution
  • Works on central tray line and assists with detainee tray set up and preparation
  • Reviews planned menu with supervisor and ensures that sufficient food quantity is on-hand at mealtime. Prepares daily reports of inspections, supplies on hand, safety and security incidents, special diets and total meals
  • Participates in post meal cleanup tasks as assigned or directed, including sweeping, mopping, and waxing floors, and working in dish room and pot room as needed.

Our ideal candidate will have:
  • Food preparation experience in Retail Restaurants, Catering, Hotels, Healthcare, Sporting Venues and/or Military operations
  • Experience working in a large-scale manufacturing plant or warehouse
  • Flexible work schedule, as our facilities are 24/7 operations
  • Ability to work in noisy environment with various climates
  • Knowledge of Basic Food Handling practices and sanitation requirements a plus
