Job Description

Park Supervisors (Commissioned) plan, organize, oversee and participate in the administration, law enforcement, maintenance, interpretive programs and resource management of an assigned State park to include budget administration and supervision of staff. Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action. The Park Supervisor is responsible for the management of Kershaw-Ryan State Park and the Elgin School House State Historic Site, located near Caliente, Nevada. The 1,713 acre Kershaw-Ryan State Park requires intensive landscape maintenance and supports picnicking, volleyball, horseshoes, and a wading pool. The park also maintains a 24/7 RV campground and hiking/mt. biking trails. The restored Elgin School House State Historic Site is located approximately 23 miles South of Caliente, Nevada. Management responsibilities include supervision of employees, budget development, administration and oversight, collection and safeguarding of fees, overall maintenance and operations, and completion of routine and special reports. This is a commissioned (Law Enforcement) position with public safety responsibilities and is required to work various hours and shifts including holidays and weekends in a variety of weather conditions. All personnel in the Park Supervisor series are responsible for ensuring a high level of customer service, developing and presenting a variety of visitor programs, performing ground/facility maintenance and custodial duties. In addition, the successful candidate is required to have extensive natural resource management, recreation and administrative expertise. Park Supervisors, at this level, are often required to determine the most applicable natural resource approach. They are also required to provide training and career development for their staff, identify facility/grounds maintenance needs and the necessary and determine the most cost effect way to coordinate equipment and materials. Park residency, in state park provided housing, is required. In order to receive consideration, applicants must indicate their ability to work in this geographical location. Since this is a commissioned position, the successful candidate, if not currently NV POST certified, would have to successfully complete a NV POST approved Category 1 Peace Officer Academy. The cost of the academy would be paid by the agency.
