UNIV 180-2 - Growth Mindset, Resiliency & Student Success

First-Year Programs at California State University, San Marcos seeks a part-time lecturer for Fall 2020 to teach UNIV 180-2: "Thriving in the Second Year." This 1-unit course is designed to support first-year students who are on academic probation. Drawing on a combination of theoretical constructs from positive psychology, "growth mindset" and "resiliency," the "strengths-based" curriculum, this course provides students the opportunity to do a holistic self-analysis leading to the implementation of an action plan for academic and life success. The action plan will involve a complete understanding of university policy related to academic probation.

Minimum Qualifications:
• MA, and demonstrated ability to work holistically with students who are on academic probation.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience teaching a first-year, second-year, or transfer college success course.
• Basic understanding of CSUSM's academic policy, undergraduate general education requirements, and lower-division preparation for the major.
• Ability to direct/guide students to necessary information/resources for implementing a personal plan to overcome academic probation.
• Demonstrated counseling skills and ability to work effectively with at-risk students and students in distress.
