About the Department
The Younes and Soraya Nazarian Center for the Performing Arts (The Soraya) includes two venues, a 500-seat auditorium, and the new 1700-seat state of the art proscenium theater/concert hall. The Soraya presents about 50 performances per year of world-class artists of all genres and disciplines. Located in the nation's second largest market, Los Angeles, The Soraya operates at the highest level of professional and artistic excellence.
Under general supervision, the Director of Production reports to the Executive Director and is a member of senior leadership team of The Soraya, demonstrating outstanding communication and management in the oversight of backstage operations and related resources and personnel. The incumbent ensures that quality control for all events at The Soraya is consistent with the highest levels of professionalism and artistry, and in doing so, directly manages three full-time employees, and indirectly oversees all technical and hospitality personnel; is responsible for allocation, deployment, and reporting of all resources in the production areas, including but not limited to annual budgets, capital expenditures, show-by-show expenses, and personnel assignments; works with the Executive Director, Rentals Associate, and Program Administrator on oversight and prioritization of scheduling; sets a tone of professionalism backstage and ensures all personnel abide by policies and practices consistent with campus and industry standards. In close collaboration with Technical Director, the incumbent acts as a primary point of contact for tour managers, artists, and their representation; and together, they ensure that all types of events (e.g. rental events, commercial events, presented performances, filming, academic performances, and The Soraya's presented season) receive the appropriate attention and consistent level of attention in both the Great Hall and the Plaza del Sol Performance Hall; is foremost a leader, manager, and administrator, however when applicable, leads "on deck"; works closely with technical personnel; works closely with Program Administrator and House Manager to ensure that event operations and logistics are optimally managed, and that all communications are consistent, timely, and thorough; is the primary safety officer for all performers and backstage personnel, including equipment usage and maintenance, approvals from Fire Marshal, insurance provisions in alignment with CSUN Risk Management, among other best practices. Performs other duties as assigned.
Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor's degree in a job-related field. Equivalent to two years of progressively responsible professional/administrative experience. Experience in planning and overseeing a shop, productions materials, and budgets and progressively responsible experience in performance support, preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Demonstrated abilities to transfer knowledge, using professional judgement, shows outstanding interpersonal skills, leadership, creativity, flexibility, and the ability to act as a team player and anticipate problems. Highly proficient in all areas of technical production (e.g. lighting, carpentry, rigging, amplification) and understands the nuances of a wide variety of performing arts disciplines. Well organized. Clear verbal and written communication skills. Ability to multi-task and work with deadlines. Fiscal and budgetary tracking abilities. Good "people skills" and a sense of humor.

Salary is commensurate with knowledge, skills, and experience. The University offers excellent fringe benefits.
The anticipated HIRING RATE is up to $104,004 per year.
This is a Temporary-renewable position, end date to be determined.
