The Position

This job posting is collecting interest for FUTURE part-time, seasonal, or casual Portland Parks & Recreation Professional Arts Instructor positions. Professional Arts Instructor:
Arts Instructors prepare and present lessons/activities for programs and classes while educating and motivating participants in a positive manner. Arts programs through PP&R include disciplines in music, textiles, studio/professional dance, ensemble & choir, photography, literary arts, drawing & painting, woodshop & sculpture, jewelry & metalsmithing, printmaking & book arts, ceramics, and theater. Arts Instructors communicate effectively with members of the public and participants while exercising problem-solving skills and responding to customer concerns. Arts instructors are asked to provide approved certification from a bureau recognized organization.

The Professional Arts Instructor position involves specialized curriculum development and instruction in one or more of these areas:

  • Visual Arts such as Textiles, Drawing & Painting, Printmaking & Book Arts, Ceramics, Jewelry/Metalsmithing, Photography, Woodshop & Sculpture
  • Performing Arts such as Private & Group Music Lessons, Music Ensemble, Choir, Ballet Academy, Studio/Professional Dance, Theatre
  • Literary Arts

Note: General arts and music activities that do not require formal education/certification are included in the General Instructor - Level II.

Professional Arts Instructors must have 500 hours of recent instruction experience AND meet one or more of the requirements below:
  • 4-year degree or equivalent in a related field
  • Certificate of completion for trade-related training or education program
  • Certification in a related field
  • MA/MM in the related field

The Recruitment Process

Talent Pool:

The talent pool announcement is NOT an application and is being used to gather interest for future Parks Casual & Seasonal postings. Please note: We will be only collecting your contact information, therefore a resume and application is NOT required at this time.
