Essential Job Functions

A Plumber Supervisor is responsible for performing a combination of the following essential job function:
  • Plans, assigns, supervises and inspects the work of plumbers, apprentices and helpers in plumbing installation, alteration and repair work.
  • Advises superiors concerning specifications for plumbing work in construction and alteration projects performed under contract.
  • Lays out jobs and estimates labor and material requirements.
  • Makes periodic inspections of existing plumbing equipment and systems.
  • Coordinates work activities with other crafts and operating units.
  • Determines work methods and type of materials to be used.
  • Orders and maintains stock of materials and supplies.
  • Ensures that plumbing code requirements, safety regulations and safe work practices are observed.
  • Supervises the maintenance of tools and equipment.
  • Supervises the maintenance of work records.
  • May drive automotive equipment to and from work sites.

Requirements
Three yearsof journey-level* experience in plumbing installation, alteration and repair work.

PHYSICAL EXPECTATIONS:
Physical Class III - Moderate: Includes standing or walking most of the time, with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching; includes working on irregular surfaces, occasionally lifting objects weighing over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.

LICENSE:
Los Angeles County and City Certificates of Registration as a Journey Plumber are required**.

A valid California Class "C" Driver's License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

A City of Los Angeles Regulation 4 Certificate may be required for testing Life/Safety systems in County buildings located within the city limits of Los Angeles. Life/Safety systems are defined as: fire alarms, automatic-closing fire assemblies, elevator recall, fire suppression, and emergency power systems.

A Certificate of Competence to test backflow prevention devices issued by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health and a State of California Fire Extinguisher Test Certificate may be required.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION:
*Journey-Level experience is defined as possessing the required knowledge, skills, and training to perform a full range and diversity of work independently and reliably. Positions at this level operate with fairly significant freedom from day-to-day supervision and need little or no guidance on such matters as selecting appropriate problem-solving methods and techniques, locating appropriate regulations, or applying proper procedures to carry out work.

OUR ASSESSMENT PROCESS:
This examination will consist of an interview covering experience, work style, and general ability to perform the duties of the position weighted 100%.

NO PERSON MAY COMPETE IN THIS EXAMINATION MORE THAN ONCE EVERY TWELVE (12) MONTHS.

Candidates must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on the interview in order to be placed on the eligible register.

ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION:

The names of candidates receiving a passing grade in the examination will be placed on the eligible register in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of promulgation.

Applications will be processed on an "as-received" basis and those earning a passing grade will be promulgated to the eligible register accordingly.
