DIRECTOR OF FACULTY DEVELOPMENT & SUPPORT

The Position: Under the supervision of the Associate Vice President for Faculty Affairs, the incumbent uses an equity lens to provide dynamic training and support to faculty, chairs, and deans/deans' assistants in the areas of faculty recruitment, searches, and hiring, faculty retention, promotion and evaluation, sabbatical and other leave programs, retirement programs, order of assignment of workload, faculty lecturer contracts, additional employment, assigned time, and other matters related to the success and retention of quality tenure/tenure-track and lecturer faculty. The incumbent contributes to the planning and implementation of professional development activities, including leadership, management skills and inclusive excellence. The incumbent will work with the Director, Faculty Information Systems, and analyst to manage digital RTP process (e.g., Interfolio) with an emphasis on faculty, review committee, and dean trainings, trouble- shooting, and responding to inquiries for support. The incumbent also gathers and disseminates information about faculty retention to assist in planning for improvements; works collaboratively with the AVP for Faculty Affairs, Undergraduate and Graduate Studies, Center for Effective Teaching and Learning and the Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion to develop and support initiatives aimed at assisting diverse faculty at all career phases to work and thrive at Cal State LA; serves as the Executive Secretary of the Faculty Policy Committee, assisting with policy development, clarification, and implementation as relates to academic personnel; and uses a command of academic personnel policies and procedures to provide consistent information and support to academic personnel.
Required Qualifications & Experience: Terminal degree in field or discipline and achievement of tenure at an accredited university. The incumbent must have experience as a department/division chair, school director, administrator, or equivalent role that involved the selection, assignment of faculty workload, faculty support and evaluation; experience planning, delivering, and evaluating training programs and workshops with an equity-minded focus; demonstrated experience working collaboratively in a collective bargaining and shared-governance environment. The incumbent must have excellent written and oral communication skills, including good listening and perspective-taking skills; strong analytical and organizational skills; and excellent interpersonal skills to facilitate good working relationships with faculty, staff, and all levels of campus administration. The incumbent must have the ability to plan and execute multiple large-scale projects; use data to support planning and decision-making; work independently and sound judgment in seeking guidance and approval. The incumbent must have a demonstrated interest and/or ability to work in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered.
Desired Qualifications: Experience in the use of Interfolio for retention, promotion, and tenure file evaluation. Familiarity with policies and procedures related to accessibility of instructional materials and a strong desire for ongoing professional development.

Appointment: The Administrator II appointment will be made under the guidelines for management and supervisory employees of the California State University. All rights and benefits associated with this appointment are governed by the Management Personnel Plan.
