- Ph.D. or Ed.D. in urban education, or a related educational field from an accredited institution. Degree at time of application or official notification of completion of the doctoral degree by August 1, 2022.
- Evidence of scholarly expertise in one or more of the following: Equity and Education Studies, Socio-Cultural Studies, Educational Foundations, Culturally Responsive and Sustaining Pedagogies, Anti-Racist Teaching frameworks and/or related areas
- Demonstrated potential for successful teaching at the college level
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching for social justice and educational equity, emphasizing intersectionality of multiple positionalities that include, but are not limited to, race, ethnicity, class, gender, sexuality, ability
- Demonstrated commitment to mentoring and working effectively with first-generation and underrepresented undergraduate students
- Demonstrated commitment to preparing future teachers for diverse K-8 urban classrooms
- Demonstrated potential for research, scholarly and creative activities
- Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population
- Demonstrated potential for teaching in face-to-face, hybrid, and online environments
- Demonstrated potential for engaging in collaborative work and professional service

- Experience of successfully working with populations demographically and socioeconomically similar to the CSULB student body
- Teach a range of undergraduate Liberal Studies courses (Mode of instruction may include in-person, hybrid, online, and/or any combination thereof)
- Actively participate in program and curriculum development, including collaboration with faculty across the university and partner Community Colleges related to undergraduate teacher preparation
- Develop, maintain, and support partnerships with local schools
- Advise and mentor undergraduate students
- Develop and sustain an active research agenda leading to publications and external funding

The College of Education at CSU Long Beach is amongst the premier educator preparation institutions in the state, preparing teachers, counselors, administrators, and community leaders to promote equity and excellence in education. The College serves approximately 3,000 students, many of whom are the first in their families to pursue college degrees. Our academic programs range from undergraduate, to master's and doctoral degrees, and education credentials that prepare candidates for careers in diverse, urban educational settings. With a low student to faculty ratio of 1:21, and strong, individualized advising from faculty and staff, students receive the support and attention needed to successfully complete their degrees on time.
The Liberal Studies major provides a rigorous cross-disciplinary program of study leading to a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies. Liberal Studies is the 'Elementary Education' Major at CSULB and is home to students who wish to pursue one of two undergraduate program pathways: a B.A. in Liberal Studies (BA), or our Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP) with a Teaching Credential embedded in the Senior Year. Students in the ITEP pathway may choose to either pursue their BA and Multiple Subject Credential, or they may pursue the Urban Dual Credential Program (UDCP) pathway which includes an Education Specialist Credential as well within a 5-year period. Students in either of these programs may also earn a Bilingual Authorization. The Department of Liberal Studies will offer an undergraduate minor in Equity and Education Studies beginning in Fall 2022. This minor requires students to analyze educational contexts from a sociocultural, equity-driven perspective. It takes a critical approach to education and provides students the tools to analyze the relationship between education and society and begin to effect social and educational justice.
The successful candidate will be committed to the academic success of all Liberal Studies students with a special focus on first-generation and historically underrepresented college students. The successful candidate will work effectively, respectfully, and collaboratively in diverse, multicultural, and inclusive settings. In addition, the successful candidate will be ready to join faculty, staff, students, and administrators in our University's shared commitment to the principles of engagement, service, and the public good. The successful candidate will be responsible for service to the University, profession and to the community. These responsibilities generally include: advising students, maintaining office hours, working collaboratively and productively with colleagues, and participating in service and faculty governance through department, college, and university committees.
