Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point with both hands holding the object and keeping the face at or near the surface so they are able to get a breath. Candidates should not swim the distance under water. Exit the water without using a ladder or steps. 200 yard swim in 3 minutes and 30 seconds or less Applicants who complete the In-Water Physical Fitness Test will be invited to participate in the selection interviews. The Newport Beach Fire Department is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join the team as a part-time Fire Support Services Aide. The selected candidate will provide various support services to fire and lifeguard operations personnel. Additionally, they may be called upon to assist other City departments and the community. SELECTION COMPONENTS: Application Evaluation: Applications will be accepted on a continuous basis with the first review date of March 21, 2024, or until 150 applications are received , whichever occurs first. Qualified applicants will be invited to an online exam. Online Exam: Tentatively scheduled for the week of March 25, 2024 . Top-scoring applicants who pass the examination will be invited to a virtual interview. Virtual Interview: Tentatively scheduled for the week of April 1, 2024 . Passing applicants will be placed on an eligibility list that may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur. SCHEDULE: This position may work up to 20 hours per week. CalPERS: The City offers an excellent benefits package and membership in the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS). The retirement formula is based on appointment date and membership status with CalPERS and the employee is required to contribute 11.5% of pay toward the retirement benefit. Experience & Education and License/Certificate A combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Experience : No experience is required, however, one year of related general support or delivery experience is preferred. Related Fire Department or Fire Academy experience is desirable. Education : Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade. License/Certificate: Due to the performance of some field duties which require the operation of a personal or City vehicle, a valid and appropriate California driver's license and an acceptable driving record are required.
