Position Description

Electronic Technician's perform work requiring the application of electronic principles and practices involving the installation, maintenance, calibration, repair, programming and modification of a variety of electronic and computerized equipment. This position will be located at High Desert State Prison in Indian Springs.

Under general supervision of the Electronics Technician III, this position will respond to repair orders; diagnose problems utilizing appropriate tools and test equipment; determine parts and material needs for repairs and projects; obtain quotes and initiate orders and contract requests as needed. This position will trouble shoot and repair microprocessors based door control systems, CCTV, intercom, fire alarm and other miscellaneous electronic systems.

Must have a working knowledge of multiplexing, modulation, modem operation, and analog and digital transmission principles; power supplies and filtering systems; soldering and de-soldering techniques utilizing various types of soldering irons, fluxes, solder, and solvents; connector assembly methods and fabrication. Incumbent should have a general knowledge of rechargeable battery maintenance and the ability to read and interpret equipment service manuals, technical references and blueprints; troubleshoot and repair electronic equipment down to component level.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in electronics or closely related field from an accredited college or technical school and two years of experience performing electronic technician work involving the installation, maintenance, calibration, repair and modification of a variety of electrical and computerized equipment; OR two years of experience as an Electronics Technician I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    • This position requires passing a non-custody correctional training course.
    • A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
    • A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    • This position requires the ability to lift 40 pounds overhead.
    • A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.
