The County of Yolo is recruiting for one position in the class of Building Craftsmechanic II for the Facilities Division of the General Services Department. The eligible list that is established for this class as a result of this recruitment will be also be used to fill vacancies as they become available in the future.

Typical duties for the incumbent in this class would include dealing with plumbing and electrical issues, but assignments will vary on a daily basis and may include any of the essential functions outlined below. The ideal candidate for this position will have electrical troubleshooting skills as well as knowledge about operating a sewer snake. The Facilities Division is a small team, so it is also very important that the selected candidate be a team player with a positive and flexible attitude.

Under general supervision, the incumbent performs a variety of work in the maintenance and repair of County buildings and facilities, and performs other related duties as required.

Distinguishing Characteristics
This is the second level Building Craftsmechanic series. Incumbents are expected to perform semi-skilled craftsmechanic duties in County facilities. They will also be required to work alone on assignments designated as semi-skilled craftsmechanic work.

Essential Functions

  • Performs carpentry, plumbing, painting, and electrical work necessary in making repairs to machinery, plumbing, furniture and buildings;
  • Maintains and repairs a variety of mechanical equipment and appliances;
  • Performs mechanical servicing tasks such as greasing, oiling, and replacing worn or defective parts;
  • Installs and removes equipment; conducts inspections to determine need for maintenance work;
  • May transport, provide instruction, and/or be assisted by trustees and other temporary workers.

  • Repairs, services, and adjusts heating equipment, boilers and pumps.
  • Some positions may require the performance of different essential or marginal functions depending upon work location, assignment, or shift.

Employment Standards

Education: Training and experience equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade and two years of experience in building maintenance or in mechanical and building trades work.
Knowledge of: the tools, materials, and equipment used in the carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, and heating and air conditioning trades; the operation and servicing of boilers, heating, ventilating, refrigeration, and air conditioning equipment.

Ability to: use a variety of hand and power tools; perform skilled or semi-skilled carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, and heating and air conditioning maintenance work; understand and carry out oral and written directions; use tools properly and safely; follow county policies and procedures regarding safe work practices; and establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course work.

License: Positions in this classification require incumbents to possess and maintain a valid California driver's license, Class C or higher, to carry out job related duties. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a physical or mental disability may request a reasonable accommodation.
