Definition

Selection Components:
Application Evaluation - Applications will be accepted on a continuous basis. Candidates who pass the application screening will be invited to a virtual interview. Virtual Interview - To do determined.
Successful candidates will be placed on an eligibility list and may be selected for the Pool Swim Instructor Training Academy where they will receive City-sponsored training toward obtaining certification as an American Red Cross certified Pool Lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor (WSI). Upon successful completion of the courses, training participants will be responsible for the American Red Cross certification fee of $35 for each card.

Training Academy Schedule: Your attendance is MANDATORY to obtain the required certifications. Your absence from any training may disqualify you from further consideration. Check in advance for conflicting dates. Applicants selected to become Pool Swim Instructor Trainees will be paid $15.00 per hour during the duration of the training academy.

TRAINING / DATE / TIME & LOCATION
Lifeguard Training - Day 1: TBD, Corona del Mar High School pool
Lifeguard Training - Day 2: TBD, Corona del Mar High School pool
Lifeguard Training - Day 3: TBD, Corona del Mar High School pool
Water Safety Instructor (WSI): Two-day commitment in the Spring of 2022. Dates TBD.

Upon successful completion of the Training Academy, the Pool Swim Instructor Trainee may be appointed to a Pool Swim Instructor with a starting pay of $16.04 per hour.

Qualifications

Experience & Education and License/Certificate
A combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience : Some experience working with the public.

Age : Must be 16 years of age at time of appointment.

Training : Ability to successfully complete the Pool Swim Instructor Training Academy.

License : Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver's license.
